Help & Info Needed Concerning 24 Bit SACD
Posted by: THE DON ()

Anyone can help with info

I recently got a new CD player TEAC CD-1000 which can play standard CD / CDR / CDRW and SACD.

Specs show 24 bit 192 KHZ

Now my questions:

1. If i burn a disk with 24 bit audio files of SACD do i use a regular CDR because it surpasses the regular 700 mb size? Or do i need to use a DVDR?

2 For burning can i use Nero or Imgburn?

3 Can i burn tracks at 24 Bit with 48 sample rate even if not SACD like seen here or on torents..

Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

You will not be able to produce a CD-R/DVD-R disc with 24-bit audio that will be playable on your TEAC. A CD-R disc (CD-DA) supports 16-bit audio, not 24-bit. A DVD-R disc (DVD-Video/DVD-Audio) supports 24-bit audio but your TEAC doesn't support DVD-Video/DVD-Audio.

No. See above.

Doesn't SACD need to be an .ISO file to get both layers? I downloaded 21 Stones SACD's from Pirate Bay in .ISO format...I have an OPPO-93 dvd player that will play just about every format known to man...smiling smiley

Not to be wise but, there is no such thing as a 24-bit SA-CD .

24-bit / 20-bit / 16-bit / and 8-bit audio has to do with PCM which is found on CD discs (16-bit) , DVD-Audio discs , and Blu-ray Discs (video and / or audio Blu-ray discs).

SA-CD's use DSD which is a different scheme ( 1-bit / 2.8 MHz ) .

Here's some info that I will quote :

" Launched by Sony and Philips in 1999, SACD uses Direct Stream Digital (DSD), a 1-bit system with a sampling rate of 2.8 million times a second, about 64 times the sampling rate of conventional CDs. This 2.8-MHz rate yields a frequency response of 1 Hz to 100 kHz, far beyond the response limits of human hearing, and a 120-dB dynamic range that is roughly equivalent to our ears' dynamic range. SACD is now capable of delivering six full-bandwidth DSD channels that encompass those extraordinary standards. " ( Six Channels or the normal 2 Channel stereo )

Maybe the music could be mixed and / or mastered at 24-bits but,the format would have to be converted for SA-CD compatibility.

The 24 bit / 192 KHZ spec with your piece of equipment most likely refers to the DAC (digital-to-analog converter) and ,perhaps, possibly any upsampling capability that it might have.

By the way,the vast majority of SA-CD equipment WILL NOT output raw DSD anyway. It ends up getting converted to PCM before it reaches the output jacks (this is where the DAC enters the equation) - with a few rare exceptions as far as playback equipment goes.

The actual SA-CD layer, yes. SA-CD stereo or multi-channel. Either a .ISO file or a .DSF file.

Any regular layer,as found on the 2002 Stones hybrid dual layer reissues,is just the same as any other audio CD. Just not the other,high-resolution layer.

I believe that the new Oppo players can play DSD .iso files from their USB ports. Maybe the BDP-93 can as well. I can't remember. It might depend on its firmware version.

I love ReelStone explanation: it's short and it does say clearly you can not make your own "SACD-R".

Very complete (and complex) information about why you can not make it can be read here: [forum.audacityteam.org] (TWO pages)

That link with it's two pages does explain why it's difficult to rip SACDs (with PS3 with special firmware and software), why it's difficult to prepare SACD contents (special software again), why the info of a SACD does not fit in a CDR but in a DVDR, and why a DVDR with a SACD structure is not compatible with a standard SACD and only a very short list of audio players can read those DVDRs with SACD structures (be them "hybrid" with both SACD structure and standard CD layer or not).

Has anybody here ever seen a SACD of Between The Buttons? It's not in the 21 SACD torrent I downloaded. Thanks for the explanations, very concise and easy to understand. I wonder why they stopped making those Bluray audio's of clasic albums, I have Let It Bleed, Exiles and several others in that format, maybe it was poor sales.

I managed to get all the SACD iso's which included both the uk & us version of Between the buttons.Burning these to disc (dvd) is not difficult, just load iso into Img burn pop a dvd in drive and burn.
I play them on a Sony BDP S300 thru my pioneer vsx 924 in DSD

For anyone interested at least there is this (old) list with some players that can, and some players that can't, play DVDRs with SACD structures (like the one of Levityx101): [sacd-ripper.googlecode.com]

Easier and more durable than the DVD-R method is to burn the .ISO and / or .DSF files to a USB stick. That's if you have the required equipment for playback. A USB external hard drive is another option. Plug them in to compatible equipment and listen away.

Re: Help & Info Needed Concerning 24 Bit SACD

Another option is a portable music player which can handle DSD files. Examples are :

- Fiio X5 ..... * [www.bhphotovideo.com] *

- Fiio X3 (Second Generation) ..... * [www.bhphotovideo.com] *

- HiFiMan HM-802 ..... * [www.crutchfield.com] *

Even if you can copy a shm CD you will not get the shm quality because when it ocmes to shm CD it's the type of disc they use that gives an enhanced sound.

So CDs, of whatever description, are not digital shit then?
There is no difference between a flac and a CD (if it's done properly obviously)

Playing it through an analogue output doesn't make it analogue.

I never said anything about MP3s.

I know that your ears are analogue Mr max56 and I know that your amplifier is analogue, but do you know that CDs are digital? It doesn't seem like it.

I suggest you learn a bit more about what you are talking about before you start trying to tell me the difference between analogue and digital, Mr max56.

To max56 when you include flac with mp3 as the same catagory and referring it to shit you are defintely wrong. Flac is lossless (of course if done right and the flac was not from mp3 source first)

then you have about 40 % from record or sacd shm
mp3 maybe 25 %
