Nice! Despite the blah-blah on most of the tracks (quite interesting if you understand the French langage) this is an enjoyable tape with a strong performance, much better than the Sept.23 show. Thx!

"The recording is certainly no better than an audience tape" But isn't there a version of Sympathy off a mid-90's rebroadcast that sounds fine and is available on VGP-100? My guess is much like the Led Zep Olympia'69 tape the actual recording (hidden in the Europe1 vaults) sounds pretty good. Us, mere mortals have to live with a 39-y.o. AM-sourced taped-with-shitty-gear version. But who knows? One day...
I had this Cd (on IMP) and I remember the sound was very muudy but clarity could be improved by boositng the highs. Don't know if VGP did some re-EQ job though... but it has the pre-gig interview that's missing on the IMP.
Oh yeah I thought François Jouffa from the Europe1 radio dug out the 22nd tape and played one song in his afternoon show "Musicorama". That was around 1995...? I don't think E1 has any other Paris'70 shows in their vaults.
Jouffa also did a Stones special on July 2 1995 (the day before the Olympia show) playing cuts from the 65 and 67 shows. These songs ended up on several boots (VGP was the 1st). I still have the cassette of the show (ah Brian Jones's flute on "Ruby Tuesday"!)
The 1970's shows are the worst shows, i'm speakin' bout the sound, i've heard from the Rolling STONES Except for this one, Essen and Berlin!
I don't know why in Europe, we didn't taped these shows like american people did during the 1969 US Tour !
It's too late now!
But thanks for this show in French Mr Urbansteel !
I'm a frenchie and it's funny to hear the blah blah during the show but without blah blah it shoud have been a lot better! François JOUFFA is one of our best Rock Specialist in FRANCE.
If you dont have Colgne, try getting that one. Its not too bad but like ya said there aint alot of good recordings from this tour. Its a shame cause The Stones were on fire! I guess if I could understand what the announcers are saying it wouldnt be annoying but since I cant I feel like I'm listening to a Pink Panther movie! HA HA!
In FRANCE, the music archives are like a secret defense ! People who own the Radio Station don't care of that cheap business for them! We don't know exactly who own what and where it is ! If "Europe 1" want to do something about their archives, we are still waitin'for! I think they're afraid by the law! The BBC did official releases from other Bands, in FRANCE, we are not ready to do that, why i don't know and it's a pity!!! We all knows the Musicorama Shows and this one from the Palais des Sports but i think there is maybe another shows with the same quality or a better quality!
Some guys must have the tapes, but they keep those precious gems for their own pleasure! It's a bad thing , but sometimes i think , it's like during the war that kind of people is growing up in the World!
For the "Chanson Française" , there's no problem, but for "International Bands" they don't care, and since a long long time!!!
Did you know, that for some French People, Johnny HALLYDAY is the King of Rock'n'Roll, funny isn't it??? John MELLENCAMP , Bob SEGER and Gram PARSONS are known by less than 5 % of the people, they prefer watching the "Star Academy" on French TV!!!
