Post: Obsidian (aka Unreleased Trax) 1-13

The first of thirteen discs posted by pumpkino on TPB: [thepiratebay.org]

"Obsidian brings you the results of some 2 million hours toil by el pumpkino magnifico to bring you the ultimate collection of rolling stones outtakes. Over forty sources were included, with much care and feeding done to assure the highest quality sound, with even those poor lonely tracks that had been sorely neglected or over-pampered in their youth being cared for and fed until they were ready to face the world.
No BBC sessions, no officially released tracks, no live performances (but for a brief trip to hades) are included. Only available in high quality 320 kps mp3 in honor of Brian Jones.

Special thanx to all those who know who you are

Design and Artwork by Haystack Pudding Graphics

This is a completely different set than the "Ultra Rare Trax" that you were offering, in much better quality.

Sometime ago I uploaded all 10 volumes of Ultra Rare Trax. My learned fans here said it was Obsidian. Also from piratebay. Also with the same text you copied and pasted above. So maybe there is more than one version of Obsidian available.

I don't know where your learned fans got their information from, but they were wrong.
Ultra Rare Trax were released in the nineties by The Genuine Pig in Italy.
I believe because of the vaguries of Italian copyright law at the time they were semi-legal.
Perhaps someone here knows something about this loophole?
Obsidian (Unreleased Trax) has only appeared in the last couple of years or so and I would hazard a guess that it's an internet generated set hence it's availabilty in Mp3 only.
As you say, Ultra Rare Trax runs to ten discs, but Obsidian is thirteen (all of them full!)
The album you posted on December 29 was definitely Ultra Rare Trax Vol 1:

Which bears no relation whatsover to Obsidian vol. 1.

Yup, Obsidian is totally unrelated to Ultra Rare, there's the odd mistake (King Bee is an Outfake) but on the whole a great compilation. Trouble is, there's more....where does it all stop...

How far have you got with this?!:

I'm working on an upgrade of Obsidian to include all outtakes/demos known. My, it's a time consuming task. I've got 3 fat CDs worth so far & I'm not even up to Beggars....

I've started on CD04 but Santa duties took over (I'm the real one you know) & I was flat chat for Nov & Dec. Slowly easing into the New Year so hopefully will slide back into it.

For reference I've used all the compilations I can find, Invision, Record Mirror, Ultra, Obsidian, Time Trip etc., online I use Jimmy's list which doesn't seem to be around anymore but I saved the pages as htmls. For the initial numbering system I've used Martin Elliot 2nd edition.

Here's the list of the first 3 cds, not posting them till I'm absolutely sure they're correct, it will have to be mp3 as I don't have flacs of everything & my speed is nothing to be proud of.

I think el pumpkino magnifico is gettin hold of himself, 2,000,000 hours equates to 83,333.333 days, or 228.31 years,or 40 sources(people) working non stop 24 hours a day with no breaks holidays etc equates to 5.707 years. All this of course does not take into account small things like leap years etc. Couldnt help myself here, I have Obsidian and love it. God Bless the Magnificent Pumpkin.

This is a nice cohesive set for people new to collecting.( Before you take that as an insult I just meant most long time collectors wont need it)

No insult taken!
You're absolutely right, looking through my own collection, just about everything I have is replicated in this set, but it is, as you say, a nice cohesive set.
Just how many copies of Pay You Dues or Brown Sugar with Eric Clapton have you got?
I haven't got that many fingers!
