The Answer

For a couple of years I have been following this band from (I think) Ireland called the Answer. Somehwre on a radio I had heard "Preachin" and it floored me. Everything that is right about a straight-up hard rocking 4 piece band comes wiht this group IMO. I love this band. Finally got to see them, and they were way way better even than I knew them to be. Not sure if it was the excellent bassplayer, the drummer or the top guitarrist. There's not much f/x, just the real stuff. Are they getting heard in Europe?

Saw them opening for The Stones in Düsseldorf last year and they were awesome. I never heard about them before and now I can't get enough of them. What a great but totally underrated band they are. Top notch.

Most recent Stones support acts have been utter crap. Were the Answer any different?

Just saw them open for AC/DC this evening, they were Good! A little Black Crowes and Zeppelin influence it seems.

I saw them at Düsseldorf supporting the Stones and I thought they were really better than other support-acts like for example Starsailor and so. I wanted to buy a record but I always forgot it. Can some of you suggest me, what to buy?

For me they sounded and looked like Led Zep clones in Düsseldorf.

RSFan - the first album is called "Rise". It was very hard to find in USA at first because they were totally unknown when I began following them. Then that album was reissued with an xtra disc. I had no idea they opened for the Stones; that is great. They are really good because each of the 4 members is rocksteady cool. And that cut "Preachin" on the studio version... I defy anyone who is into the Stones like we are to remain unmoved when that choir comes in on "Preachin".

saw em twice last month opening for AC/DC in New York

adequate was the word that sprang to mind. decent enough, but heard it all before riffs and a singer who thinks he's Robert Plant. the clothes, the moves, the yelps

if they can get past that and come up with some of their own ideas, they could do ok. if they don't they'll be just another in a long line of tribute bands milking the past and adding nothing to the future

With me, nowadays it comes down to what I am looking for. Within the blues based rockband set-up - sure, it's all been done. By now it is only a matter of honesty and passion. And then I will love a band for their drive and soul. If you're committed to doing 4-5 minute rocksongs, with verses, chorus and maybe a bridge; some rave-ups, some slide,on Les Pauls and Marshalls, and the basic harmonies, then I guess you are not going to come up with much new. So if I know that this is what this band does, then I can not judge thenm for not being novel. At that point chemistry is the crucial factor;the bassplayer together with the singer, the guitarrist together with the drummer - this is a really good band. Not a great rewriter of rock history, but as good a carrier as I can ask for.

I wish I would have seen "The Answer" instead of "Starsailor" as opening act for The Rolling Stones in Hamburg 2007.

Thank you for the photo from Dusseldorf. I was there too. A very strong performance I'm happy to say. Also got a pick from Ronnie at the B-Stage. What a time!!!!!

Haha, yeah, I still wonder what I saw/heard in them, when I look at their first CD. The plagiarism is so obvious.

I hear no Zeppelin at all in this band. Why - because the singer has a high voice? The rhythm section has nothing to do with led Zeppelin.

That's why they were perfect for opening for AC/DC.
