You are right with "You Can Make It If You Try" , but "Can I get A Witness" isn't a gospel type?

What's your opinion, are these soul songs?

Thought you were chasing the slower gospel type 60's soul material...

The term Soul gets tossed around fairly freely ... can mean the
deep Southern material from the likes of Redding ..Wright...Burke ...Carr etc
Also applies to what was coming out of Chicago ...Curtis ...Impressions...Butler etc....

Then there's stuff like Motown which is also labeled Soul.....Temps..Smokey...Gaye...etc etc etc..

Are You Already Over Me ... could easily be called a Soul ballad

Hey - Universal! Release it!

I'd say Melody is soul. Some kind of soul anyway. It ain't jazz and it ain't blues either.
In the hands of a great soul singer like Smokey Robinson Memory Motel could become a great soul ballad, which to me it is anyway. Black and Blue is full of soul, just depends how you define it really.

"Suck On The Jugular" is "funk" for me. It's interesting to state that "Beast Of Burden" is "soul music". I think that Mick's singing is "soul" on a lot of songs with other mixed styles. For example: Miss You or Satisfaction.

"Jagger says,(about Beast Of Burden) "Lyrically, this wasn't particularly heartfelt in a personal way. It's a soul begging song, an attitude song. It was one of those where you get one melodic lick, break it down and work it up; there are two parts here which are basically the same."

Is "Try Me" from the Chess sessions available anywhere?

That's it. I've made up my mind.
The next tour should be an all-soul tour.
No warhorses, no forgettable new stuff.
Just good, tasteful soul.
