Dead Flowers is a simple, easy to learn song so i'd recommend it as a good starting point. It works equally well on an acoustic or clean electric.
I learned many RS songs just by playing the same track over and over until you get it.
The chords for the verse are D-A-G-D.
The chords for the "Take me down little Suzi" part are, if memory serves, G-A, then A-D.
You can just learn the basic pattern first and then work out the bits that involve taking various fingers on and off within those chords to get a more sophisticated sound.
Oh yea, Dead flowers is really simple. As Tears Go By is not difficult either. Honky tonk woman is not a good choice, it is not so simple when played properly. At least not for a beginner. Angie is also quite simple if you only want to play chords...
No offence, friends but Hey Jude would be a very nice approach for the very young one... Then all the Stones' universe will be open Sorry, it's my own experience....
OK, "Hey Jude" is nice. But when you're on a Stones' show... And 100000 people starts crying "you can't always get what you want!" like a Red Army marching on the streets of Moscow, like thousands of prisoners getting free on a dark night, like people dying to be free... oh well ;^)
When I was about 10 years old I always wanted to play Angie. I wanted to know the chords and progression. I was so devoted to learn, that I could the song when I was about 11 years old. That was only the beginning. Thanks to The Stones I've learned to play the guitar.
Yeah, thank you all so much for the dear and valuable feedbacks. Since my lad and I are already much into singing of Stones songs, I guess we'll enjoy it the more so with the kid on guitar.
Quote Sleepy City I started off by playing Chuck Berry rhythm, that chugga chugga thing on the two lower strings. This was before I even knew any chords.
That is a very good start! It is very simple and one can go in many directions from there.
