Sheryl Crow & Keith Richards - "Happy" 1999
Posted by: Wuudy ()
Date: October 31, 2008 12:00

I came across this video. Keith guests at a Sheryl Crow concert and sings Happy. He is really up for and i think the drummer has the night of his life but somehow Sheryl is a bit lame and towards the end the songs goes a bit flat IMO because maybe they are not used to jam it out like Keith does.

Does anyone know which show this was?

Cheers,
Wuudy

yes it was part of a one off gig in central park NYC called "Sheryl Crow and Friends". It was released on cd later that year.

Sheryl Crow & Friends
Central Park

I was there, almost front row. Keith did another song before happy, can't remember which one. Clapton played as well.

Sweet Little Rock & Roller - apparently there's footage of that floating around, but it's silent,
which pains me deeply. i'd love to hear it.

I've seen this a few times. I don't think they did much rehersal. Sheryl does not seem to have a clue on how to harmonize with Keith! I guess it's not a task for the unprepared! I think this was filmed at the time she was dating Sir Eric?

It's also apparent that Keith did not know how to play Happy. It's atrocious.

I went to this show. I remember Keith was lifting up one of the Dixie Chicks's skirt with his guitar. She seemed to get a kick out of it.

Keith did not play the song like he wrote it - he totally screwed it up, which is basically impossible to do.

So how is that so hard to understand that that makes it atrocious? If he wasn't so drunk maybe it would have turned out better.

He appeared at the Q awards around this time.....totally sh..faced at 11 am.
Everyone slates Ronnie for "having one too many",but Keith has always gets away with maintaining the image,no matter how f..ked up his playing gets.

There was someone I knew working there and he said Keith was trying to "buy" everyone a drink backstage.

As long as Keith is playing the guitar, singing and posing, I'm perfectly happy.

Yeah. I remember watching it live and thinking it was atrocious. Which, at the time, it sure seemed like it - everyone I was watching it with was laughing at the screwups. So that's what I remembered. What - something wrong with that? Nobody stole your palm trees.

Thank goodness they pulled off the ending. It's hard for Keith to synchronize a perfect ending with Charlie sometimes. Here, this drummer looked to be having a wet dream playing behind Keith and knew exactly how to get out of the song.

It's a good version. I never understood what people think is so bad about Sheryl Crow. Admitted: It's weird to have her on Honky Tonk Women. She'd probably fit in better on a different song. She made some good stuff too by the way. That song Soak Up The Sun might not be the most provocative song you'll ever hear, but who says it needs to be? Sometimes it's nice to kick back and relax to a song that's just oozing melodically down the highway.

Yeah, He had surely had the night of his live. Very cool to see someone's "dream" come true just like that video of the Foo Fighters. Those guys were in heaven playing with Page and Jones. "Welcome to the greatest night of my live" just summmed it up perfectly.

Cheers,
Wuudy
