Which 70's soul song should the Stones cover?
Posted by: Elmo Lewis ()

Some wonderful hits (Imagination, etc.) and misses (My Girl) with the soul covers - Temps, in particular. Not much love for "Love Train".

Forget the Motown/Stax stuff - what 70's soul (or even disco) song should the boys cover?

A few I'd like to hear:

"Get The Funk Outta My Face" - Brothers Johnson
"Let's Get It On" - Marvin Gaye
"Play That Funky Music" - Wild Cherry

I hope they release 'Drift Away.' A tremendous version in my opinion, even with the minor guitar flub (which perhaps they could fix).

How about 'Tear the Roof Off the Sucker' by Parliament?

Oh yeah, scottkeef, Mick could sing the hell outta that one!

How about Mick singing 'Rescue Me' by Fontella Bass, in the same falsetto he used for 'Emotional Rescue.' Would we be able to tell the difference between the two songs?

"Who's Making Love" - a great Johnnie Taylor song - good choice. "Drift Away" is 2 cool and I agree, should be released.

I really believe they don't have the soul or the musicianship , to cover 70's soul. Mick will mess up the phrasing and "The Weavers" are wandering.

Well, Midnight Hour and several other ones - what a waste that would be. Why do something so popular? Imagine if they did something as lame as Brown Eyed Girl? It's better when they stick with obscure tunes or somewhat obscure.

Yes! A reggae version of "YMCA"... the "Weavers" trading sloppy licks, Jagger having that a half-drunken badass "Send It to Me" attitude (or the original "Start Me Up")... Keith and Ronnie doing the (out of tune) chorus back vox... And just think the lyrics comiing out of Jagger's mouth....>grinning smiley< Wait a minute, they should have done it already in the end of the 70's, they are much 'cleaner' Vegas act nowadays... eye rolling smiley

Couldn't agree more with this one! I can almost hear Mick belt this out. "White Lines. DON"T DO IT". Maybe we can get one of those Stones cover bands that were posted recently to do it to give us an idea on what it might sound like. LOL.

How about "Hot Stuff" by Donna Summer? I expect they'll do a Bo Diddley cover on the next tour since he's passed on since they were out last. I'd love to hear them do "Can't Judge A Book By Lookin' At The Cover".
