OT: Oasis - Dig Out Your Soul
Posted by: Big Al ()
Date: October 7, 2008 17:03

It was released here in the UK yesterday.

Have yet to give it a listen, but have being a little dissapointed with the tracks I have heard thus far.

Anyone else bought it yet and what do you think?

Bought it yesterday so as to be ready and prepared for tonight and tomorrow's gigs in Liverpool.

There's definetly a more rhythmic feel to their sound, and it would be fair to say that the songs by Noel are superb, with the remainder being generally good to very good.

...a LOGIE thumbs up!

cant stand oasis.

cant stand overrated bands.

cant stand the gallagher brothers.

they are morons.

but the thing i hate most about oasis is liam standing with his hands behind his back for entire concerts.

whats that all about.

he looks like a right tube.

the music is crap aswell, its got little energy and most of it is monotonous.

so, d'you mind me asking why the hell you bothered posting in the thread?

You do, indeed, have a valid opinion on Oasis, but it's nothing to do with what the OP asked; "Anyone else bought it yet and what do you think?"

Oasis are ok, nothing more. What I miss most about their music is decent guitar playing.

Absolutely fantastic show last night in front of an unbelievably fanatical crowd, but this was definetly NOT for people of a nervous disposition.

I'd even go as far to say that in over thirty-five years of attending gigs, I have never seen an audience behave anything near that which I witnessed last night, with the entire audience on it's feet from start to finish, and the floor of the arena resembling a swaying, lager-drenched pit of manic behaviour; almost as if the rival tribalism of Manchester and Liverpool had been put on hold for the evening in celebration of their heroes' return to the fold.

...and what a return! They make a Stones show resemble a polite pensioners' afternoon tea-party, by comparison.

OK, they may not be the most refined band in the world, and they certainly don't write much in the way of pretty ballads, but Jesus, these guys can rock better than anyone else I've ever seen (the Who excepted), and they're not frightened to play their new material either.

The big regret I have is that having detested them during their early years and missed so many of their tours, it has taken me this long to finally get round and see them.

...now for round two, tonight.

Nice one,LOGIE....opening with Rock 'n' Roll Star sets the scene. Earls Court in '97 was my first Oasis gig and have enjoyed several of their shows since - Looking forward to Wembley next week.

<Interestring. Care to elaborate?>

Strumming and fuzz-chords don't do it for me alone. Acoustic, they have their moments.

The CD is really fine all the way through.
Bag It Up and Lightning being the favorites.

Great job by the boys.
Worth the wait.

They cannot be compared with the 'Stones or the 'Beatle's and yet they as far as the younger generation is concerned they are comparible.
There is nothing wrong with this as whence i was a teenager i had my own heroes and laughed at critism of them by my older peers.
As 'Oasis' have been top of the pile in the UK and Europe for over 10 years one must respect what they have achieved whether you like them or not.

Good call, Paul!

I've been flying around my loft, going crazy for the last two hours to the strains of Noel and Liam.

Fantastic stuff!

an excellent show, although i had a poor quality, seat ticket
(not that anyone was sitting.)

Liam connects with the audience, like few other frontmen, could ever wish to.

The people who continually bleat, that he doesn't jump up and down or performs cartwheels, down a walkway to a b-stage, with fireworks going off, completely, and monotonously, miss the point.

His voice, isn't ,imo, the force it was 10-15 years ago, but he still delivers, and delivers like few frontmen could even dream of.

They weren't afraid to play the new material, generously sprinkling them, throughout the show, between all the classics.

Few bands, British or otherwise, can get 12,000 bums off seats, jumping up and down, throwing beer around, having a brilliant joyous time, in an abysmal, aircraft hangar venue, like Wembley Arena.
All power to them.

Here's the UK outdoor tour schedule for Summer 2009.

Manchester Heaton Park (June 6, 7)
Sunderland Stadium Of Light (10)
Cardiff Millennium Stadium (12)
Edinburgh Murrayfield Stadium (17)
Dublin Slane Castle (20)
London Wembley Stadium (July 11, 12)

Re: OT: Oasis - Dig Out Your Soul

Quite agree Adrian-L, having seen them on a number of occasions putting in mixed performances over the years, last night they were on top form. The Masterplan and Champagne Supernova were superb and Liam's new song 'I'm Outta Time' is going to turn into a classic for sure.
The fact that it was (almost Live - a delayed broadcast) on MTV may have contributed to the event with both Noel and Liam being more communicative with the audience than usual. I was particularly amused by Liam's introduction....."this next one's for my kids" before ripping into 'Cigarettes and Alcohol' - choice!

On this tour they have reverted to closing the show with 'I Am The Walrus' and a mighty version it is too. Fron where we were the sound was great and even the 'abysmal aircraft hangar venue' rocked last night. Goo Goo G'Joob!!
