I've seen every tour since 70 and mostly lots of dates.

Tell us about 1972!!

Sorry. I should have been more specific!

As a German I was speaking of all European tours!
Therefore startin with 1970 Euro gigs . .

I don't like Keith guitar sound all throughout the album. What a disillusion after GYYAO.

"and save for a couple of songs like Honky Tonk, YCAGWYW ((especially the solo)), and Fingerprint File...I agree....although Live Licks isn't far behind as their worst live album distinction"

Wow you're right...I forgot what a disaster LIVE LICKS is...ok...there you go...the vote...which is worse..."LOVE YOU LIVE" or "LIVE LICKS"!!!!!!!!!!

Well, for the tour and the Live Licks album the band sounds better and it has, on disc 2, better tunes on it. I rank LL above LYL.

Yeah Rooster - Fanfare For The Common Man is the best intro Rolling Stones ever had - I think, as well

Best guitar solo for Honky Tonk ever, best performance of Honky Tonk ever, best version of Honky Tonk ever.

That's about it.

The Gibson is much lighter then let's say the Fender telecaster. I remember Keith said something like this in a interview.

I must disagree with this. Some of those LP's weight a ton. Fender = lighter.

True, those LP's are much moere heavier then telecasters but i meant those hollowbody gibsons he uses on songs like IORR and Gimme Shelter.

Cheers,
Wuudy

It's interesting how much the guitar sound has varied over the years, which is all down to the amplifiers used of course. At Hyde Park and on the 1969 US Tour (and other tours) they used rows and rows of guitar amps, giving a huge chunky overdriven sound...as in Midnight Rambler (Hyde Pk and GYYYO), SFTD (GYYYO) etc.

Compare to these days....each guitarist has a tiny amp, like a Fender or Boogie, then this is mic'd up and blasted throug the huge PA system. So if the small amp sounds weedy, you simply get a weedy sound coming out of the PA. Very loud, but still thin and weedy sounding.

I wish they'd go back to the rows and rows of amps method. I believe only the drums and vocals went though the PA then, the guitar amps were their own PA system effectively. Not sure when the change occurred..perhaps in the 1980s onwards.

Yes, I've interpreted the complaints made in various threads by various people to be about the black hollow body -- I guess it's a 355.

To those that don't like LYL, what would you say the highlights are (apart from the El Mocambo side, which everyone agrees is amazing)?

Prior to the album's release, and based upon their connections with the band, NME had already began to speculate as to what would be included. Interestingly, the article provides a brief insight into the actual track selection process:

Nice read. Thanks LOGIE...I guess this is the 'source' for most of the 'First cuts considered for Love You Live' on Nico's site...

And maybe what might/could be the 'expanded' edition with Universal! Seeing that they worked on the overdubbing/editing/mixing etc...

Now THAT would be worth buying.
