They will end up in Europe like they use to do. London usually. Or Istanbul. Or Rotterdam. Or Cologne. But never in Vegas. We leave that for Elvis and Frankie Valli. And Celine.

Would not be surprised if the Stones did a few weeks in Vegas

If you really need it explaining you can email me, as political threads are (rightly) not allowed. I don't want an argument BTW.

Prince did it too....so whats your point?

And Elvis played more shows on tour per year in the rest of the US in his so-called 'Vegas' period than the Stones ever did.

Residencies in casinos with a high guarantee where their affluent middle aged fans can go to see them and where the Stones dont have to spend lots of time on the road isnt that far fetched a scenario. The Stones' audience in the US now is closer to that sort of market than it is to the 'average' rock n roll crowd.

Theyve been taking rock n roll the Vegas route since they started playing there in 1994, so playing 12-15 shows in a month long run in some hotel there is hardly too improbable.

... they are a bit old to be flying around the world now anyways.
Might as well do Vegas at this point...

I doubt there would be a huge demand to see the Stones next year since they've toured so much this decade. I'm sure AC/DC will be doing a stadium tour in Europe next Summer so that will be one of the biggest tours of 09.

Maybe it's time they opened their own theatre in Branson.

I can't imagine how dry and boring all the warhorses will sound after a few days/weeks/months at a Vegas engagement.

Doubt they'll do take their band down this road. If they would've done it--they would've done it 7 years ago..not now...there's hardly enough time left in their career/lives for long engagments and promises like these.

Well Gazza using that logic. It doesn't necessarily have to be Vegas. Why not pick out a few major cities and do 5-10 night runs at a theatre. Amounts to the same thing doesn't it?

Yep..and I think they'll eventually do that too.

Besides, in music terms, Vegas is a state of mind, not geography.

Yeah that's what I thought you meant G. It really is the way to go and maybe if they stay in one place long enough, they might get a chance to work on some different songs...Dare to dream 'eh.

London - 10 shows at smaller venue like the Apollo, what about a blues/cover show or two - last night at 02.

There was loud chattering in 2007 that a 5-10 show residency is 8 or 10 major markets - it negates the travel that they all hate, it negates spending masses of time from ghome, and neccessitates smaller shows without making it obvious

it says that, Universal is planning a big offence with 19 newly mastered albums and a new compilation. Then there is a band meeting next week. The rumour says that the tour would star as a arenatour in USA and would continue in Asia and Europe 2010. So it`s still a speculation

Sounds like theyve 'researched' their story right here!

Yeah, but that's not surprising at all. When the Horsens gig went on and off all the time in the press two years ago, they used IORR for all sources.

As Brussels is the capital of Europe I suggest 5-10 concerts in Vorst Nationaal.

Fine suggestion. Meanwhile, here's another one ... possibly a more pressing issue. That they get their lead guitarist sorted out.

I don't see what difference a global recession would make to the super rich Stones. They need to promote all the back catologue reissued cd's, they still have all that merch to flog and they persolnally need public adulation.
Set the ticket prices to 25USD and you'll have packed houses.

Yeah, maybe this is the time when ticket prices begin to approach reality.

What about the 2012 jubilee? They won't start in 2009 to end in 2012 or do two tours within the next five to six years?! Universal will do its back catalogue, the Stones will release a new studio lp before 2010 (they don't seem to promote their albums with tours anymore if you regard how much they played of Bigger Bang) and a "50 Licks" will be released in 2012. It's only my guess, but touring will be around the jubilee.

With the global recession, perhaps we will see a tour that cuts the costs a bit? On the last tours around 350 people have been involved in the production. That pushes ticket prices up. But if we don't need a gigantic stage, all those screens, the railway to the b-stage etc. And if they could reduce travelling, by doing several shows in one city, then the next week - another city... If they could do with only one stage, in stead of three, as they've had ton the last tours in the USof A and in Europe... That could save a lot of expences for them. And us.
But what we saved on ticket prices, we would perhaps have to use on travelling to another city, as we cannot expect them to visit absolutely every city there is. But only a handfull. Are you prepared to pay for the train fare to go from Hamburg to, say Amsterdam? Or travel from Ann Arbour to Chicago?

Does Mick hate travelling now? He still seems to be spending as much time as ever travelling all over the place.
I'm not sure he spends much time at home either, or wherever he would call "home".
Perhaps its travelling with his band mates that he hates!

New tour - This I read in a Sweish newspaper today

Stones make new world tour
Last week, Ron Wood went directly from treatment home to the restaurant.
It has not stopped Mick Jagger making up new plans for the Rolling Stones:
A new album will be released next year - then Sweden is supposed to have a concert in the summer of 2010.
They are one of the world's oldest rock band, but the Rolling Stones seems hardly think about retiring.
Rolling Stones lead singer Mick Jagger, celebrated in the summer, his 65th birthday to write yet another autograph. Precisely that ended on a record deal with a new record label, Universal, which is planning a big Stones-offensive.
In the spring the 19 of the band's album that will be rereleased, once again, in parallel with a new album.

And once the Stones are rolling in, it may be talk of a new studio album.
- All members of the band will meet next week to discuss the future. In particular, plans for a new studio album in 2009 with a subsequent tour, "says a source of Expressen.

New world tour

The plan also includes an extensive world tour, starting in the U.S. major indoor arenas next fall. The idea is that the Rolling Stones continue to tour in Asia to reach Europe, and possibly Sweden, the summer of 2010.
- We have no reservations made on the Stones, "said Carolina aside Erwall in Swedish organizer Live Nation.
- But they have never said they would quitting touring.

Been Stoned since 1964 and still am!

Lots of rumors but....it is not far-fetched. The last record shows they can still create good music...and I hope Universal signed them for more than a re-release party.

I don't believe the story is true, but I am hoping it is.
