Any suggestions of good ones? I recently read One Train Later by Andy Summers and Bit of a Blur by Alex James, both very enjoyable.

Ian McLagan gets my vote too - Mac put a lot of time into this book and any 'ghost' support stays in the background. McLagan's style and voice are vivid, likeable, smart, and there are dozens of great stories. All this effort shows - the book is way better than "Ronnie".
I also suggest Levon Helm's autobio - it's right up there & essential to any Band (or rock n roll) fan.
I liked Ike Turner's autobiography - a lot more informative, real, & informative than Tina's glossy soap-opera memoir. And his story is both inspiring and chilling.

Agree on Dylan & McLagan. Another good one is X-Ray by Ray Davies.

That is a good one. I'm not the biggest fan of Fleetwood Mac, but I think they gave the Stones and Zeppelin a run for their money when it came to wretched 70s excess.

The ones I read most recently are Ronnie and Eric Clapton's.

Seems like everyone's writing their memoir these days.

Would also suggest Dylan's and Clapton's books.. Loved them both. Don't bother with Ronnie's, as much as I love the guy its horrible.

Reading Macs book for the first time right now, fantastic read, and absolutely required reading. Go get it!

Yeah, I'd second Levon Helm's book "This Wheel's On Fire." Very funny, then very sad. I resist taking sides in the Levon-Robbie split. It breaks my heart. I once got to shake Levon's hand and give him my regards. The memory of it always brings a smile to my face.

Slash - great insight in his life, if you're a big GNR-fan, buy it!

I'm collecting Stones related books and have some other autobios as well.

Yes, Macs is nice.

Ronnies style, like that of B. Wymann,is terribly frumpy and stilted. Everybody is a good man and a great friend.Just dreadful. I really hope Keith' won't be like that! But I don't have high expectations. What will come out when an old man talks about his younger days . .
Of course one of the best is still M. Faithfulls great bio.

Among others I've got: Lemmy's White line fever, Dr. Johns Under a hoodoo moon and Mötleys Dirt. All have some nice moments but are soso all in all.

The Ray Davies book, X-Ray is brilliant.

So good in fact, that he toured with it!

I sort of collect rock n roll books. Here's my faves in no particular order.

1) Living Out Loud - Toyah Wilcox - Was very suprised how good this was.
2) A Cure For Gravity - Joe Jackson - Very well written.
3) No Irish, No Blacks, No Dogs - John Lydon - Very, very good. Find out why John is so angry!
4) Wild Thing - Ian Copeland - Nice insiders view of the biz.
5) I'm With The Band - Pamela Des Barnes - A classic. Very funny.
6) Get In The Van - Henry Rollins - Very funny. Great insights about early US punk scene. All his books are great!
7) Sex, Drugs, and Rock n Roll - Richard Balls and Ian Dury - Great biography about this man who should be more famous than he is.
8) Stone Alone - Bill Wyman - Some people dismissed this as self serving. But still very good.

Scotty

Nick Masons from P Flyd is pretty good.

Claptons is mostly good, boring towards end when sobers up and gets all self righteous and preaher-like

Ronnie - shocker, say no more...........

Andy Summers - excellent

Ian Curtis/Joy Division - written by Deborah Curtis, excellent

I tried reading that, and just couldn't get into it. The title is off-putting for me - petty, yes, but I hate that song.

another goodie is Rob Hirst of Midnight Oil, cracking good read

producer but also musician:
Tony Visconti: Bowie, Bolan and the Brooklyn Boy
-interesting read

Donovan: Hurdy Gurdy Man
-like a MOJO caption said "he also invented the wheel", but it's well-written, especially the childhood and beatnik-chapters (he deliberately changes styles here, and the use of more conventional biography-style when his career takes off is a bit of a disappointment)

and I gotta join the chorus praising Mac's book, brilliant! Found Levon's memoirs fascinating, but also bitter
