Too bad this is THE MSG show that only exists in fragmentary form...
Another info : Keith was in a very bad shape for the June.25 show : he didn't sing Happy and (it's not too-well known) he was unable to join the band for the Sympathy encore.
Listen to it : with ONE guitar on stage it sounds hollow and uninspired. Poor Ron couldn't fill Keith's shoes obviously

they skipped happy that night? only time on the tour?

Happy was skipped the night before that - the 24th
It was replaced by Sure The One You Need at the Kansas City and Milwaukee shows

I got it from a French fanzine (Satanic Majesties #11) from 1975. The lucky guy attended all the MSG shows and wrote a brilliant LONG "composite" review.

The guy (Daniel Vermeille) did a fantastic job: he noticed the Lady Jane from June 24 (correct). He also mentioned a "Carribean rock" played on June 23 & 27 (also correct) which is of course (the at-the-time untitled) Cherry Oh Baby.

Strangely the STU quote is in English. Even stranger, Daniel Vermeille writes : "after the [June 26] show STU tells **me**..." which suggests he spoke to him directly... Quite strange innit?

In short :
no Happy : June 25 AND 26.
the ESSO show : June 26.
Acc. to Vermeille of course!

It's always been my impression Keith played bass on all MSG Sympathy versions - and not just the two that had guesting guitarists

Yes!
DV also suggests that since they June 25 Sympathy was not exactly a triumph they did not play it on June 26. Indeed it's not on WELCOME BACK TO NEW YORK (VGP 039).

When the nearly complete 06/26 show was torrented on Dime, a downloader/person wrote that he remember SFTD being played - for sure. And it was the 06/26 show he attended - for sure
But of course one can never be sure about what other says...

OTOH the no-Happy shows affair is not clear.

Vermeille says June 25 & 26 but the boot "I Can Sing Lady Jane" (VGP-305) shows it wasn't played either on June 24.
Vermeille also says he witnessed Keith losing his voice that night (June 24) during You Gotta Move. So logically Happy was skipped that same night.

So either :
- the "no-Happy shows are June 24+25 and Vermeille's account is flawed : he saw 2 Happy-less shows which were June 24+25 but he remembered June 25&26.

- or there were indeed THREE no-Happy shows : June 24-25-26 and Vermeille did not notice the absence of Happy at the June 24 gig (secondhand ganja smoke?)

Happy is there - when it comes to SFTD....it's not on any sources of that show

Keith played bass on Sympathy, and let Wood and guest (Clapton, Santana, Jesse Ed Davis) play guitar.

Looking back to page 3 of this thread, just to confirm the photo post by erik: you're right it's from the San antonio 3rd june show : you can see on this press clipping (not great quality I know) from the "san antonio light" : Jagger wear his Leather jacket, the pics down, R Wood with satin shirt, and Preston black jacket and white pants, This press clippind is from the 4th june, so relating the 3rd june show

Not at MSG. There are rumours that he played with them at one of the L.A. shows but they are probably false since this has never been confirmed and there is no evidence whatsoever.
