Lorenz as you know the majority is always wrong... ;-)
And the remastering of the albums has most probably been done by comparing them to... the current crop of crap that new "hot" Top 40 bands put out nowadays, not the original vinyls or even the Virgins CDs.
Since the lastest trend among record execs is brickwalled mastering, our beloved band has been brickwalled.
No make that "the sound of these classic albums has been reowrked improved to bring this fantastic music into the 21st century" said A. Rsehole, a Universal exec. to "Uncut" mag ;-)

I recall getting the CBS Sony cds and being disgusted by the thin, early digital sound which was deeply inferior to the best 1st pressing vinyl editions, esp UK Japan and (Exile for instance) US. Virgins were a significant upgrade, and now with all the improvements plus state of the music industry I expect the Universals to be improvements too.
They will be, John.
But you can also bet there will be plenty of complaints ... about how Universal has "brickwalled" the sound and how this or that is too loud. I guarantee it, just check out this board on May 4.

Distorted songs on remastered CDs weren't predicted.

I haven't heard many good things about the Universal remasters. It appears they have boosted the volume and used the original US vinyl mix on "Star Star" which attempts to disguise the "pussy clean" line. Do any of you think any of the new remasters are upgrades over the Virgin remasters? I'm not being sarcastic - I'd like to know what CDs sound better than previous remasters.

I picked up SF, GHS and Black And Blue last night at Newbury Comics in Boston, MA for $10 a piece. For a newbies I guess they sound okay on an average system (or in my case a car stereo). Universal pulled out all the stops for the packaging though. Each album gets it's own jet black CD insert. Whoever owns the copyright on the color black will make a little $ on these new Universal Stones discs...
About one step up from a CD-R disc and a black sharpie in all honesty.

None of the four released so far are De Luxe versions, are they? Maybe the only De Luxe release will be E O M S?

You are right, completly! UMC have remixed and are rerleasing the old "original" tapes, and is going to replace all that Virgin CDs in stores, 14 studio albums first, will followed up by the live albums next year, perhaps.
And we are still waiting for fresh announcements, Deluxe Editions and a new album, too.
The campaign has only been started, more will follow, step by step.
