Your five favourite Unreleased Stones Songs?
Posted by: Sleepy City ()

Not an easy choice, but here's 5 of my favourites:

(1) Diddley Daddy (though I could choose almost any of the IBC demos)

(2) Go Home Girl (I've always loved this Arthur Alexander song, & I was thrilled to finally hear a Stones version)

(3) Down In The Bottom (this ROCKS, one of their finest R&B covers ever!)

(4) Get Yourself Together (aka I Can See It) (undoubtedly my fave ever unreleased Stones track, this could've been one of the highlights of 'Between The Buttons' & was even good enough for an A-side!)

(5) Still A Fool (possibly their greatest slow blues performance, & an incredible return to their roots after the excess of 1967)

OK, your turn.... : )

Quite a lot of wonderful songs to choose from really, a Favourites-List o' mine though would definitely include:

1) 'Do you think I really Care' - SomeGirls-era outtake I think, just love the groove, this one cooks!

2) 'Tried to Talk her into it' - Maybe not a huge favourite among others, but I love it! Juiced up & sloppy, a warbling witty lyric from Mick, trying to talk her into it, to drink her into it..into "one sweet night of love"^ All this set to a countrified groove, 'tis a winner

3) 'Criss Cross Mind' - Always loved this one, methinks from the GHS sessions. Open G, not a spectacular track, but a worthy raunchy rocker!

4) 'I can't Help it' - Possibly aniother SomeGirls outtake, definitely late seventies I'd say. Not exactly sure of the title, "I can't help, I like you too much". To put it simply, it rocks! Frenetic pace, a rhtyhtm section firing on all cylinders, and guitars just the way we like them, loud and weaving.

5) 'Looking Tired ' - from '65 or '66, wonderful shuffle beat.

Plenty more one could mention - Travellin' Man / Claudine / Zip Mouth Angel / No Spare parts / Fast Talking / Misty Roads...etc...

Many fantastic ones mentioned there,

if I may ask:

Keith's "Some of Us Are on our Knees" - where is this one available, and, from which sessions is it from?

"You should've seen her ass" - I have a very dodgy quality version of that on a GHS sessions outtake CD, but, is there a better version doing the rounds? The version I have is very muddy.

'Go raibh mile maith agat' (Thank you Kindly)

The accoustic work-track version of 'All Down The Line.' At least as good as the official release!

And you're right Sleepy City, 'Down in the Bottom' is MEAN! Can't believe they never released that.

Yes, that's a goodie (I think I'd even choose it over the electric version!).

Glad someone agrees, though it's obviously I'm in the minority on here for preferring the Brian Jones era over anything post '68.
