Posted by: COUSINLOU ()

I was listening to "Live with Me" on the way to work this morning.
Keith just has that groove goin' on that track

I really like his bass lines on Crazy Mama too

What other songs is he out of his mind on the bass?

Richards has played bass on about two dozen Rolling Stones studio recordings, from "Have You Seen Your Mother, Baby, Standing in the Shadow?" (1966) through "Infamy" (2005).[37] One unusual instance was when he and Bill Wyman joined forces to play the bowed double bass on "Ruby Tuesday" (1967) - Wyman did the fingerboard work while Richards manned the bow.[38] The rest of Richards' bass-playing contributions have been on bass guitar, on tracks including "Jumpin' Jack Flash" (1968), "Sympathy for the Devil" (1968), "Live With Me" (1969), "Before They Make Me Run" (1978), "Sleep Tonight" (1986) and "Brand New Car" (1994). He has also played bass on stage on a couple of occasions: with The Dirty Mac in 1968 and on "Sympathy for the Devil" at a Rolling Stones concert at Madison Square Garden in June 1975.

Never heard this before? That would have been after Mr. Wood joined the band - did he do all the guitar parts and what did Bill Wyman play?

Wood and Clapton on guitar, Wyman and Richards on bass.

so many song? what was Bill doing except nailing young complacent nymphettes? At this point I suspect that the fear of flying was only a "covering" for him leaving the band

...just joking; his pumped up bass (seems to work with compressed air!) and tight short melodic lines in 1981 - 1982 tours have no equal in music history, my hat off to Bill Wyman

I too tend to think "wtf?" when I see how many songs bill's absent from, especially during the 70s. But consider how he frustrated he must have been by the songwriting situation--in terms of credit (the usual debate) but also the actual process. Once the band shifted toward a "get wasted and jam in the studio for hours, then have the engineer find a few minutes worth keeping" process, his patience must really have been tried, as his personality doesn't seem suited to that kind of atmosphere. Harder to understand is how charlie tolerated it, as he wouldn't seem likely to go along for such a ride either. bill probably realized that he could put in more effort, but he wasn't likely to get more results.

Anyway, it's a nice mix to have different bass players track to track.

Didn't he play bass on "Fingerprint File" on stage? And Bill played a synth?

Maybe Keith could play bass from now on - that would be less problematic for his fingers - Ron could play bass on a few very Keith specific numbers.

Then they could have Mick T. back..... wouldn't be too bad.

That is an awful version. The bass is totally out smiling smiley

Ronnie & Keith are both very good bassists, but I'll give Ronnie the edge in expertise. Also, don't forget that Mick Taylor played the bass on the EOMS version of "Tumbling Dice".
