Quite frankly, I could not care less about breaking news which label signs the Stones and which label is out of the game. I want to hear something about creativity. A new album. And if it is not going to happen, at least some creativity in handling their archive. Or, even better, both.
Like many older fans, I am bored to death with over-emphasis on the Stones' business aspects, ticket sales records, number of trucks they need to carry the stage and such shit.
I am pretty sure that if in a hundred years from now the world remembers the Rolling Stones it will be because of their music, not because of their business & marketing skills.
That's the part I don't get. The whole Live Nation gaggle is "artists look beyond traditional recording deals to tap into increasingly lucrative touring and merchandising revenues."
I think 100% of IORR's would agree that the Stones don't need Live Nation because they've done just fine by themselves and have, if anything, been what LN is imitating, at least in my eyes, with exactly what 'lycrative touring and merchandising revenues' are - that IS The Rolling Stones. The Stones don't need Live Nation - Live Nation needs the Stones.
That's just how I see it. That might be arrogant as a Stones fan - it might be correct as a neutral observer. I dunno.
Well, there are other aspects that I won't go into - flip flops, beers, food, casinos....that other people have done...
An article in the Wall St. Journal today says that Live Nation is working to oust Cohl as Chairman. Apparently there is disagreement over the viability of the mega-dollar "360 deals" such as those signed with Madonna and Jay-Z.
