Downloaded Metallica from the Wiltern Theatre in LA. Did pay for that one. Also downloaded the new NIN album.(didn't pay for that one)...Also been dowloading a shitload of Springsteen Magic tour shows.
The new "Mudcrutch" disc appears to be the sound of the summer for me, or at least part of it. I think it's Tom Petty's best in years. Bluesmasters Hans Theessink & Terry Evans' "Visions" hasn't fully sunk in yet, but it's a relaxed acoustic blues album, both suitable for the nights spent by central heating in winter and in the shade of a tree in the summer. Salme Dahlstrom's "Acid Cowgirl Audio Trade" is a disc that I found completely by surprise. It's a Big Beat / rock N roll crossover that's really a reason to party. "Boo" by Was (Not Was) is nice, too, but I prefer the soulful tunes over the signature funk workouts that the band is known for. And the lyrics are weird as always. Jackie Greene's "Giving Up the Ghost" is somewhat darker lyrically than his last album, which I enjoyed a lot. The new one still has plenty of good tunes. The sound is basically singer/songwriter, with influences from the blues and sometimes country and others, which is just the mixture I enjoy.
I got one on my birthday the 20th of May, and that was Morten Harket: "letters from Egypt" (yes, the vocalist in aha) And it's laidback and Ok. I also got an Norwegian book about "Alle presidentene i USA", and the new book about "Pondus", a very popular cartoon in Norway.
Turns Into Stone - Stone Roses (hasn't arrived yet!) The Essential Willie Nelson The Best Of The Specials The new Charlatans one (can't evan remember its name!)
Despite the Internet, I'm still spending a great deal of money in buying actual CD's. Damn, I need a better payed job!!!
The last ones:
- James Brown: Star Time 4CD Box-Set. - Van Morrison: Still on Top: The Gratest Hits [3CD Edition]. - Bob Dylan: The Bootleg Series Vols. 1-3, Biograph, Under the Red Sky, Blood on the Tracks [Remastered]. - Whitesnake: The Silver Anniversary Collection.
The most recent I bought was a box called "Nothing But The Blues". 20 CDs strong and have tons of great stuff on it (Including Muddy, which is always a plus).
1) Marvin Gaye: The Master 1961-1984 (4 cd "earbook," only 10 bitish pounds from play.com! Bargain!) 2) Portishead: Third ("Electronic krautrock". New album. Sometimes sad, sometimes scary!) 3) Scientist & Prince Jammy: Dub Landing vol 1-2 (Dub from the early 80s. Cool!) 4) Various Artists: Duke Reids Treasure Chest (Rocksteady hits from 66-68. Sweet!)
