Here's a novel idea for Petey. Check out the current Bruce Springsteen tour for ideas for how a classic rock act should tour. Play EVERYTHING. Dig into your catalog. Play stuff you haven't played in years, play stuff youv'e never played live before. Play ANYTHING but We Don't Get Fooled Again. AGAIN!

There are a few bands whose names I won't mention who could follow that suggestion SCL!

Yeah Chris. I've purposely avoided making comparison's between Springsteen and the Stones. Been there, bitched about it already. But really, when was the last time The Who played anything off of Who's Next besides BOR, WDGFA or BBE? How about playing Getting in Tune or Bargain or have Roger sing My Wife or some other Entwistle song as a tribute. The hell with playing new material nobody cares about. Reach back in your catalog and play shit you haven't done in 30 years. It's as good as new!

That's another thing I admire about Mick....he's a perfectionist but keeps light-hearted at the same time.

Mick's never been the "tortured artist" type, but then again, he's never tried to write operas either! (LOL)

True...I suppose...but we would never know if Mick tried to write an opera and got a writer's block....that's the difference lol

Every WN song except "Love Aint For Keeping" and "Going Mobile" was played on the 2000 tour, and Bargain and Relay are still in fairly regular rotation.

That said, The Who have been infinitely less willing to explore their back catalog than the Stones have - as much as people can (rightly) complain about the same-ness of Stones sets, the Who have a much smaller variety of songs that they can play.

Ok thanks TC. I followed the last tour and saw 1 show. But they didn't seem to change up much. But I would kill to hear Getting In Tune live. God I love that song.

Unlikely as it might seem (or might not, I dunno), the version with Eddie Vedder from the Albert Hall in 2000 was brilliant. I think it's on iTunes, but I'm not sure.

As long we are talking Who here fellas. How about some love for the Entwistle Who songs. Sang about as often as a Keith Stones tune. But waht about besides My Wife and Boris The Spider, the Ox also wrote and sang great tunes like 905 and The Quiet One....Another question, how much of Who Are You has been played live. Because there is some great stuff on there I would like to hear like Had Enough,Trick Of The Light(great song, killer guitar riff),Guitar & Pen,Sister Disco....

Mmm,
So there you are Pete. Come out and play the Who Are You album . You can call it the "Who Am I " tour if you want.

[..and I agree...some great songs and venemous guitar on that album]

They did a package tour with Jimmy Page and the Black Crowes in the summer of 2000. The tour usually The Who the first night and Jimmy Page/Black Crowes the second night. They combined to save costs and offer a cool concert package. I saw them in Virginia when they came through the DC area. Fantastic! As I said first night was The Who, they were on fire! More stripped down and forceful than the Quadrophenia tour. And yeah, they did Let's See Action, and a stunning version of I Don't Even Know Myself. The second night was Jimmy/Black Crowes (they opened with The Wanton Song!! And did a killer version of In the Light AMAZING).

I wish they would do more off Quadro, like the Punk Meets the Godfather, Had Enough, Dr. Jimmy....for me that is their Exile, a stunning masterpiece, much better than Tommy (which the studio version is overrated).

Don't forget Entwhistle's classic Heaven and Hell! The version on the extended Live at Leeds is incredible.

Daltry has said Guitar and Pen is one of his favorite Townshend compositions...

I had tickets for that Page/Crowes tour, without The Who. But they cancelled twice. Because of Jimmy's back. They finally gave up. Man that pissed me off.

With the Who it's the same setlist night after night. If you see two shows, you might see them change ONE song, or you might get EXACTLY the same show both nights. The Stones DO try to mix it up a bit more.

My big complaint about the 2006-07 tour: Not one song from Quadrophenia.

When I met John, I told him that on the later Who albums, his songs were better than Pete's. He agreed with me.

Farewell Tour V.18 was the last one? When's the next one? Oh right - when Pete needs the money.

Perhaps Pete will now progress work on his long mooted autobiography. When his "child porn" case was news, his Lawyers argued that he was gathering information / doing research for his book. I'm not very good on dates, but this must be over 5 years ago. He has been connected with book publishing via his work with Faber and Faber for a long time so is hardly a novice in the literary world. Still, unlike many celebrity efforts it probably won't be ghost written so could take time.
I think Daltrey could make an excellent "rock standards" record -50s//60s stuff -he's still got one of the best voices in rock
