Tarle had the possibity to print more issues and offering a cheaper price. If he didn't need money, I think he didn't print this pictures and kept them for himself or offering some to keith. But he needed money and for his ego, made a luxury edition for a minimum of issues. He didn't want to share that with a lot of people, not with the "commun des mortels". He had have the chance during one month or two to share the keith life. If you want to watch that you must pay hard price. I'm not ready to do that. By the past I spent a lot of money in my collection but now it's over.

It's just very basic economics on how to achieve the highest profit with the least amount of work and risk, and it's the same way how the Stones sell their tickets. If you ask $50 for a ticket you can play three shows for 50.000 people. If you ask $150 for a ticket less people will buy a ticket, but you'll only need one show for 50.000 people to earn the same amount of money that you did with three shows. But, as the costs for one show are less (less people to hire, less rent for the stadium) in the end you earn more.

It's the same with this book. The highest profit is reached if you make a limited edition for $1000 per book. Instead of 50 books for $20 you now only have to sell one.

I agree with you and I already understand that by myself since a long time but this is my own opinion about that, not an economic review. We could do the same with food, just one field of corn on earth and Bill Gates would be the only man eating something. Diamands are rare and by this way expensive. These books are made to be rare and it is not he same things. If tarle's books are rare, people would take about it but if there are millions or tarle's books, "Adios la legende"
