IMHO a top ten band.

DP with Gillan/Glover - Excellent rock band
DP with Daverdale/Hughes - Excellent rock (plus some roll) band
DP nowadays (saw them in 2006)- Excellent rock (plus some entreteinment) band

Playing guitars: Blackmore excellent - talent, quality, taste
Morse excellent - talent, virtuosism, tecnique

Singing: Gillan excellent
Coverdale excellent
Hughes excellent (solo and in tandem with DC)

Best albums of all MK's:

Machine Head, In Rock, Burn, Made in Japan, Made in Europe, Perfect Strangers, Rapture from the Deep

People say: questions of taste

We salute you !
Alex

I don't know how many people appreciates Deep Purple over here. But I heard that nowadays they are touring without Blackmore. Is it true?If so, can they attract crowds without Blackmore?

I think Steve Morse can do the job!

Saw the Purple twice in recent years in Singapore. Last time touring for their disc Bananas. Ian Gillian singing for them, which to me it the most important factor. Let's face it there are a lot of great guitarists out there that can fulfill the Purple's requirements for their sound, but Gillian is their best singer and still had it. The second time I saw them, however, Lord was no longer with them, which is a shame. Being they were in Asian they opened with My Woman From Tokyo...
Great shows and I would recommend seeing them. From all accounts Blackmore was an incredible egomaniac and caused a majority of the frictions and disruptions in the band. Now he is playing old medieval folk music...which sounds pretty boring to me. Rainbow, for me was more like Asia, a hybrid unit formed to sell records, but not a lot of soul (I saw them twice), and really pretty lackluster to me.

Blackmore vs. Gillan

I wonder how much ringside seats would be for this.
Ian, you are great man, but sometimes you are too modest.

...and check Perfect Strangers for the EXCELLENT groove they created in 84...

Yes, Perfect Strangers is a very good album.

The live chronicle of this phase of their long career, is just as good too !

Overall, they have been VERY generous to their Fans, on video and cd releases, of their ENTIRE career...as we know, this is rare.
