It was # 3 at a local cd/bookstore this past week, cool.

A Bigger Bang didn't sell 1.1 million its first week...at least not in the U.S. I think it has only sold a little over 500,000 copies here total.

Thanks georgelicks. Strong sales. I think SAL deserves it. Excellent live stuff.

BTW, anybody can see how low the general level of sales is... An album of a famous, good selling act like REM's sells 469,500 copies on it's two first weeks. (If i remember correctly, ABB had sold 1.1 million on it's two first weeks). Music only taken from Internet? Who knows, maybe in four - five years from now...Or sooner?

REM is now up to 730.100 copies sold. Interestingly enough SAL has sold 305.700 in the same number of weeks...not too shabby for their eigth (??) live collection compared to REM's all new album.

Even more interesting - Madonna has only shifted 62.900 in her first week compared to SAL's 63.900 in its fourth. Guess is has to do with when and how they release it - I remember the same problems with ABB's first week sales.

The Stones are a good example of an international band: SAL has sold 73,000 copies in the U.S but the world sales are 300,000. ABB has sold 2.5 million but only 545,000 in the U.S.

Thanks georgelicks for updated sales for SAL and ABB.
Interesting to see how a band 45 years in existance is still selling records strongly worldwide.

The Stones should retitle one of their earliest hits as "The Globalization is on my side"...

Why not, Doxa? That's a good version of the meaning of "Globalization"...

"Great to be here, great to be anywhere"... What not "great to sell anywhere", too?

Who talked about first week? As you can see i mentioned the first two weeks...Anyway, don't forget that ABB was two weeks #1 on Worldchart and it stayed on Top 10 for five weeks. ABB has sold much better than what many people on this board are thinking…

Unfortunately, i have not the sources and the info georgelicks have. I don’t know everything album’s exact TOTAL sales number. But a few months ago i made some calculations based on what various famous artists and bands (new or newer, from any kind of music), have sold, DURING their stay on Worldchart's Top 50. ("musicchart" ). Trying to appraise ABB’s sales, i estimated sales done by famous artists after ABB came out. Week by week, month by month.
As we know, ABB has sold 2.6 million. The album has sold 1,927,400 copies before it left Top 50. What have other acts sold during their stay on the same Worldchart? My sample includes 50 albums…

During their stay on Top they had sold:

Bon Jovi 2,422,100
Simple Minds 181,000
Franz Ferdinard 1,482,600
Sheryl Crow 678,000
Him 420,500
Corrs 457,300
Depeche Mode 1,283,300
System Of A Down 1,812,300 (“Hypnotize”)
Korn 867,700
Strokes 682,100
Arctic Monkeys 1,553,900
Richard Aschcroft 243,300
Notorious BIG 1,164,300
Placebo 500,800
Prince 801,000
Morrissey 247,300
Bruce Springsteen 1,319,000 (“We Shall Overcome”)
Tool 1,857,700
Pearl Jam 1,103,500
Primal Scream 50,000 (??!!… Was it a DVD? )
Kean 1,383,200
Busta Rhymes 612,000
Muse 1,183,300
Iron Maiden 747,100
Audioslave 559,200
Janet Jackson 544,200
Killers 2,624,900
Jet 232,700
Beck 236,900
G. Michael 1,125,700
Oasis 1,225,000
Bloc Party 422,100
Kaiser Chiefs 602,800
Manowar 679,300
Slayer 273,100
Jay- Z 1,206,800
Snoopy Dog 588,600
Westlife 1,215,200
Kings Of Leon 409,500
Nine Inch Nails 549,600
Arctic Monkeys 1.051.400
Tori Amos 149,500
Wilco 196,000
Maroon5 2,299,800
Bruce Springsteen 2,068,300 (“Magic”)
Many Chao 527,700
White Stripes 1,120,900
Bon Jovi 2,103,600
Queens of the Stone Age 316,500
Velvet Revolver 380,400

Some sales -mentioned or not, here- are so poor that in a few cases i wonder
wether it concerns about studio albums or some other stuff (georgelicks knows, of course). But i think this catalogue overral could be considered as representative of the general sales level, these days. The more i see numbers on Worldchart, the more I appreciate ABB’s sales!

REM are experiencing a comeback of sorts after a decade-plus of declining sales. Prince is another who rather cheated with his big comeback by giving the thing away (soundscanned, of course) w/ tix, to rejuvenate his comeback...After owning 1982 - 93, of course...

5th week, SAL is # 16: SAL went 12- 16 on the worldchart with 43,000 copies sold. A live album spending five weeks on Top 20 of the worldchart it's somerhing really remarkable!

Yeah but this chart is April 21-27. The Madonna CD was released in US on April 27 and rest of world April 28. So this position represents 62,900 in one day in the US. Not so bad after all!

Rebelrebel, on her first "full" week Madonna has sold 758,000 copies. ABB wasn't too far from it, (681,000 copies sold)

On the 4'th week - SAL is #19 in DK - that's ver good for a live CD. Stones have never done better in DK.

SAL went to #16 to #9 in Argentina, the chart is updated every TWO weeks here. Now SAL reached the Top 10 in 15 countries.

Greece: third week, two positions higher! Now SAL is #14. First week #17, second week #16 and now #14. That's impressive as for a live album (on Foreign Album Charts SAL is #4). SAL movie isn't on yet in Greece, but the reviews for SAL CD on greek press are very positive. Who knows, maybe SAL album is going to score another round of success here, when movie will be shown.

I don't give a shit about sales.........it is wellknown that most people like 'low quality'

(I mean, for every 1 million McDonalds hamburger, there is only one oyster and maybe 3,5 bottle of champaign sold)
