The Black Crowes rip off Gimme Shelter

Have you listened to the new Black Crowes song "We Who See the Deep" in their new CD Warpaint?

It sounds like if the song was written as the band was jamming on a cover of Gimme Shelter. The main riff, some guitar licks... almost the same song in a slower pace.

Nothing wrong with that, by the way. I love the Crowes and they always remain loyal to their roots and they admit it, so bless them.

It's just that the song sounded so familiar to me...

Yes it is. First chord in major also. Minor had been All along the watchtower. Kinda Mick Taylors solo.

Accusing someone of ripping off the Stones is like accusing a band of ripping off Chuck Berry. Imitation is the greatest form of flatery.

Hey, no accusation attempt here!

It's just that the similariy caught my attention.

Love the Crowes (best band from the 90's IMHO) and the fact they borrow from the Stones and many others.

Of course is a form of flatery when you can do it with such taste.

You can always trust the Crowes when you're looking for beautiful and honest music, and it's my pleasure to have them around again!

Great song from an incredible disc! Warpaint rocks with passion and soul. God's Got iT!

It may be flattering, but it demonstrates a lack of originality, and the Black Crowes are constantly compared to the Stones, which for a band I do not think is a good thing. Make your own sound, down slag off of someone else, man.

it's absolute bollocks! Wee Who See The Deep/Gimme Shelter? Phuleeze! If you have to name a song, it's No Quarter by Led Zep, that little riff in the end of that descending chord run. And Led Zep stole it from Hendrix (Message to Love,I think it was). And all those songs are completely different. In my book anyone who writes the Crowes off as Stones imitators is an @#$%&. So @#$%& all you @#$%& in this thread and elsewhere. Black Crowes rule, and are a million times superior band to the Stones these days. No four note solos or empty posing, either.

The very greatest rock songs are often similar to each other,
like LA partly stumbles over above.

I'm embarrassed on Black Crowes behalf, when seeing that "Remedy" video - the singer should have been in a tribute band instead.
Sounding like one is influenced by Rolling Stones is one thing...but trying to dance like Mick Jagger....that's taking it too far

I really don't hear it except for just the chord progression. I thougth maybe they actually stole the riff. But these are just chords...no big deal. The chords/structure is hardly original but rather simple and very easy to accidentally lift.

Time to judge the Black Crowes on their own music and not some fixed idea that nothing they do is 'new' of original. They sound better live nowadays then the Stones do and 'Warpaint' is an album the Stones should have released.

That said, watching the Remedy clip was painfull...
