For once, let the Stones play what THEY want to play, with no concessions to anyone based on how much they or their corporation paid for a ticket, how old they are or the fact that they may just be familiar with them through one greatest hits album

The greatest rock n roll band in the world have long ago earned the right to be a jukebox for no one. They have as great a back catalogue of work as any artist in history. If people dont like it and cant adapt to that, f**k them. It's their loss. They've had ample opportunity to be pandered to by now. Time for the Stones to re-claim their own music for themselves.

Call it the "No Compromises" Tour.

Couldn't have said it better myself, except if they REALLY wanted not to compromise, they could always call it the "And F*** You Too" tour. Now THAT I would like to see.

Good rules to start:

Ok, here is my dream/realistic set with the understanding most of my dream songs won't be played, so let's say it is a realistic set list more than anything.

1. Honky Tonk Women (my choice would be Paint It, Black, but too quiet, no power chord). Actually, I think The Last Time would be a great opener and a poignant one at that, but Mick would not insinuate anything about a "last time."
2. Bitch or Live With Me
3. You Got Me Rocking
4. Shattered
5. Tumbling Dice
6. Waiting On A Friend or No Expectations
7. Love In Vain or Shine A Light
8. Gimme Shelter
9. Out of Control or Midnight Rambler ( I would prefer both, but realistically, due to the length of the songs and the requirement of Mick playing harmonica on both numbers, they would most likely be rotated not played together.)
10/11. Keith set: Coming Down Again and Before They Make Me Run or Happy
12. It's Only Rock 'N Roll out to the B-stage
13. Around and Around or Let It Rock
14. Summer Romance (my hidden gem request)or Dance Little Sister
15. Satisfaction back to main stage
16. Start Me Up
17. Brown Sugar
18. Sympathy for the Devil
19. Encores: Paint It, Black
20. Jumpin' Jack Flash

My preference would be to end with Midnight Rambler, which they have done a couple of times most recently at their No Security opening night in 1999. Realistically, they will end on a number they can extend through a jam while Mick waves goodbye to everyone in the wings. This set list is loaded with hits and with no new album as per the rules, most likely they would resort to this type of set list again. Many of you read the article in Rolling Stone from 1995 that lays out the thinking behind crafting the setlist. They have pretty much stuck to that formula for the past ten years. Chuck seems to have more involvement now.

Some of my favorites are from the Taylor era and should not be replicated by Ronnie and an arthritic Keith. Time Waits for No One, Can't You Hear Me Knocking, Moonlight Mile, Winter, Luxury, even Love In Vain is not as good, but not butchered like CYHMK, MM, and Luxury have been with Mr. Wood.

Realistically speaking: The Stones can and do modify the number of different songs they play. They just don't modify the setlist by more than one or two different numbers each night. I tried to reflect that philosophy without adding too many additional possibilities. The point is, you're never going to hear all the gems you want to by attending a typical arena or stadium show as has been discussed at nauseim on this board in the past, but you could get one or two numbers that haven't been played routinely in years.

That's just a combination of a Licks Tour set list and A Bigger Bang Tour set list aside from # 2,# 6 (Bridges) and # 8.

17 - 20 could use a shake-up.

It's time for something different.

Ronnie suggested at the start of the Licks toir they might do things like this at the theatre shows. Of course it was all hot air.

Theyd never do it, Mick would be scared of playing more than 2-3 songs in a row that the corporate fans might not know.
