Did anyone else in the UK feel the earth move (quite literally) a minute or two before 1.00 am?

At first I thought it was the alcohol talking.

4.7 that's all. In California that's barely a hiccup. Relax and enjoy the ride Brits. Besides, hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way.eye rolling smiley

Quite a novelty for us. Just a gentle wobble really ...but quite fun.
No harm done to anything other than the odd poorly maintained chimney stack.;^)

I certainly felt it - I thought my sister doesn't normally shake the floor that much when she's going to bed...

You might have to scrape me off the floor at the end of the tour, but it'll be really good scrapings. - Mick Jagger

That explains it!!

My wardrobe doors started shaking and making a load of noise around that time-kind of freaked me out!

I live around 100 miles north of London

I was asleep when it happened. My wife felt it though. Said it was the first time the earth had moved without me.

I had fallen asleep in front of the TV, and I woke up at around 1:30am, so obviously it didn't wake me. Apparently it struck at 0:56am GMT.

I woke up feeling a little shaken. Thought to myself that we were having an earthquake and fell back to sleep immediately.

sweetcharmedlife - some friends of mine moved to Barsto some years back. The wife was particularly impressd that her house shook at exactly 3:00pm every day. She kept her mouth shut for a few weeks before asking a local why earthquakes were so regular. Turns out her house was on the final decent path for the blackbird spy plane as it broke the sound barrier approaching Edwards AFB. And this from someone who originates from an earthquake area.

How often do you have earthquakes. From what I have seen of London, it is not built for a major quake.
