"Unknown" Stones Song

I dunno. There are comments below this. I've never heard this tune. From what I could hear (on this particular computer I could hardly hear it - not well I mean) Mick is kind of mumbling a bit and then he says Get on yer knees and pray.

It's somewhat like Fiji Gin meets Had It With You - fast, bluesy in a way, Charlie is quick, it sounds Some Girls era to me.

Hmm,the organ-player sounds like Billy Preston and the drums got the Emotional Rescue"-sound?

First time I heard it, I thought it was possible that this was a a tune from the Woostock 78 rehearsals - a few weeks later I give it one more spin - and it didn't sound like ROlling Stones to me anymore.
And pretty recently...some guy posted a link with the story behind that fake track...it was a Stones cover band who recorded and uploaded it as a joke.

After listening to Mick for decades and never hearing anyone do an authentic sounding Mick impression, I would have to say that that is him singing on this song.

Once again; "pretty recently...some guy posted a link with the story behind that fake track...it was a Stones cover band who recorded and uploaded it as a joke."

I didn't see Erik-Snow's post before I wrote that. I'd love to see that link.

Hi, tried to search in the IORR archives, but I can't find it anymore.

If that's a fake it's a hell of version of an imitation of the 1977-79 Rolling Stones.

For me this does not sound like a fake at all!

This is pure late 70's Stones-in-studio sound. Jagger, guitars
and everything sound absolutely authentic to me. Those kind
of songs with a riff and some ad libbed vocals of which we have
plenty on all those Paris Results-albums and stuff.

There are dreadful fakes around like "Angel Baby", "Restless
Child" and some more which circulate to fool collectors
and fans. None of those ever came close to the original
Stones sound.

But this is the real stuff (in my humble opinion).

the voice sounds just like Mick. Ive never heard a stones cover band where the singer actually did a dead on voice. The only thing is that its very low in the mix so that could be trying to cover something up about it. the band sounds very tight like the stones. If you were a really good musician I guess you could fake being the them. If it is a fake, its a shame that such talented people wouldn't make something of their own instead of playing a stupid game. It really sounds like a real 78 era out take though!!

The guy posted the link on "Hot Stuff", sometime during the last 6 months.
Can't remember the headline; but it was something about "look at this outtake I found on youtube..!"

>> This thread? 'Stones Rare' <<

hm ... no Sohoe that's not the thread i vaguely recall, with an explanation of where it came from -
clearly there have been several threads. i may be confusing it with discussions of that other fake, though -
the one that sounds like a cross between Slave and Can't You Hear Me Knocking.
have some popcorn. it's popped in very good olive oil

No, the thread with the link was newer than that, I'd guess 4 months.
Anyway, I've searched quite a lot - with no result, so there must be something wrong with the search-option here at IORR. It wasn't such an important thread anyway...

We'll have to ask Mack Jigger, With Sssoul...

Re: "Unknown" Stones Song

I'm voting it's real. Mick's voice is pretty dead on and his way of "vocalizing" throughout the song fits how he usually plays with songs early in the songwriting process. How he says "money" "Knees and pray" are very much like Mick. Also the lazy bend at 00.19 is very very Keith-like.
