Well whether it is the best or not is a matter of opinion but the tongue logo has to be the most famous/recognizable of all the band logos.

The Stones' logo should be a shoo-in. What a crock. I dislike this list.

As for other worthy entries, well, I'm not a fan, but the Doors' logo is pretty iconic. For that matter, same goes for Led Zep. And the Allman Bros Band.

In terms of legitimacy and consistency of use, I think the above three qualify to a higher degree than the Beatles' supposed "logo" which graces no album covers save the post-mortem "Past Masters" duo, to my knowledge. Plus maybe the BBC disc... again, published long after their demise. A revisionary logo, says me. But I quibble.

BTW where did I read that the Kiss logo was designed to resemble that of Nazi Germany's SS Stormtroopers? (Rock and roll fascists!)

I love Prince, but I don't think his logo tops the tongue!

RS obviously excepted. I like Aerosmith's. But that some of these are even considered logos is a joke. Simplicity can be elegant but these go beyond that.

I went through the list and looked for it as well....it doesn't matter how "uncool" they are perceived to be...their logo was a HUGE part of their success...and they used it to sell millions and millions of albums.

It should have been number one, not the lame symbol that Prince used in place of his name.

And the fact that Swan Song Zep logo isn't even on the top ten is crazy, that is a great vivid symbol for a band.

Part of the definition for a logo is a symbol that is instantly recognizable, the tongue is number one for that reason.

Even the Led Zeppelin logo of the name was classic. That used to be on everything.

First of all, since when is Prince a band? So "band logo" doesn't apply here.

There are tons that are more iconographic than that Prince logo. It's not bad but it's not yet a classic.
