hi,
I am sure this was a topic before, but since I'm rather new to this forum ...

Could anyone help me out with guitar chords for 'The Worst'. Especially the one for " ...kind of guy ..."

thanks a million!!!

That goofy one is a D with an F sharp on the bottom (top) string. It's in D, he chimes out in D and just slips down to an A without playing an A outright.

Paly D and catch the F# note with your thumb.

The strange one is a G5. Second string, third fret and third string, fifth fret, that's it! Notice how it is the same strange chord used at the beginning of Slipping Away...

Yes, use your thumb, something that I've been told by people who actually teach guitar lessons is a no no. I use my thumb all the time, never had a lesson. There isn't one show where I don't use my thumb on a number of tunes.

The worst chord I've ever played is an E9th dim. Terrible!

I thought the Slipping Away chord is a Dmaj7 chord (2nd fret on E, B, and G strings). It's not strange, btw.

Thanks, skip, I was sure someone would call me out about that. I use my thumb too although it is considered a no-no by "so called" experts.

Good enough for Keith and Stevie Ray - good enough for me.

Ronnie on Start Me Up is an excellent example of using the thumb!

I mainly use my thumb to mute chords but I don't know if it's techically right.

Playing with the thumb over the neck is right or wrong... depending on which school of guitar playing you were educated at.

There´s some footage of Jimi Hendrix where his thumb is over the whole fretboard. He had incredible large hands...

Sore point with me that !
I don't have especially small hands..but my thumbs are relatively short. It's always hampered my ability to fret the bottom note cleanly and in tune with my thumb unless the neck is just the right size and shape.
I take solace from the fact that Keith's always suffered from the same problem ;^)

Exactly - any so called 'expert' who says you shouldn't use your thumbs is no expert at all in my opinion. Who cares what part of your body you use if it gets you the right sound and feel.

No guitar teacher gives you lessons in riffing anyway. Use your thumbs, friends. I do, anyway >grinning smiley<
