This topic just come into my mind, while having a nice conversation with Helter...is there any band in your own country (or US state) who are called the "Danish, Dutch, German etc etc. Rolling Stones?"
In Holland: Golden Earring

This is not what keefriffhard meant!
There is no band in Norway with the longevity of the Stones.
The closest would be Åge Aleksandersen, who has played in
bands since the late sixties, but it's not really comparable
since he has only occasionally been successful.

Love Golden Earring, though. They are really underrated,
George Kooymans is great guitarist and songwriter.

Sorry to be such a nuisance, but Telephone are not
comparable, either. Correct me if I'm wrong, but they
formed around 75 and split before 90. I like their
"nude album", the one with "La Bombe Humain".

in canada probably the closest thing we have is the tragically hip...
huge band here in canada, can sell out 20 000 seat venues... but only play club shows in the states.
they used to cover some stones tunes back in the day too, including 2000 light years from home. if i am not mistaken they did jumping jack flash on their last tour as well as dead flowers i think.

In Denmark, I guess Gasolin' is the answer. Although they haven't played together for almost thirty years now.

I've heard Aerosmith referred to as the American Stones

It is. Maybe a close second would be D.A.D. although they suck now. Best new bet must be Nephew although they suck major ass too.

Well, when you've kept it going for 30 years, and play similar music, that's a success in its own, despite not selling a lot of records...
