I like 'Time Waits For No One' - never hear it on the radio, why? Maybe that's a good thing and it keeps us craving some of these gems more. . ?? Comments?
Time can tear down a building. . .or distroy a women's face. . . .
When there was great radio that tune would pop up on occassion. No chance anymore. I actually heard it on XM not too long ago. I always liked Hide Your Love off of Goats. Fun tune with a little bit of everything that makes the Stones great.
Our local "classic rock" station has started playing amazing Stones stuff lately. First noticed it at the beginning of December - driving back from Neil Young in Buffalo they played Sweet Black Angel and Bitch within 2 hours. Lately heard Monkey Man, the live version of Start Me Up from the Toronto Rocks concert in July '03, Happy, You Got the Silver, a live version of Neighbours and more other usual and unusual stuff. And... I only listen for about an hour in the morning and when I am driving. Who knows what else they are playing??? But the Stones ratio is definitely way up - they used to play Led Zep every other song... Believe the Program Director has been possessed by benevolent aliens. Listen on line: [www.q107.com]
im a radio dj and try to sneak in the stones as much as possible (satisfaction oddly enough just came on as im typing this)... what stones tunes can sneak in all depends on the station and its format.
i work for what is dubbed a 'classic hits' station which is different than a classic rock station.
classic rock (like Q107 which was linked to above) can get away with playing live versions of neighbours, sweet black angel, live start me up etc.
i've tried but it just doesn't flow on our station. instead i try to work in a lot of the 60s stuff (play with fire, heart of stone, mothers little helper, time is on my side) while balancing it with dead flowers or bitch. we of course just like the band play all the war horses too.
i've got my own special shows in the evening on which i often sneak on plenty of lesser heard tunes ie - sway, dear doctor, she was hot etc.
but as sad as it sounds, the songs you can play relaly are costum tailored to the station, there is just an undefinable boarder about what songs flow with everything else the station plays.
I've been on a personal mission to get Winter played on the radio. Without success so far. But a few weeks ago a local station played Jigsaw Puzzle. Which is rarely ever played on the radio. Of course then the dj comes on and brags about playing "that great stones rarity".Ughh...play it more often then.
"It's just some friends of mine and they're busting down the door"
Q104.3 in NYC will dig out a nugget from time to time - I've heard them play "Winter", "Knockin'", and even "Slave" a few times.
That said, I'm more floored these days when I hear something post-Tattoo You. That one month period (August 2005) when they played "Rough Justice" and "Oh No Not You Again" was great!
I remember hearing Mercy Mercy on the Big Ape out of JAX. I thought I'd gone to heaven. I was wrong and this stopped happening all over the lands! But of course "they" know what we want to hear. Just ask "them."

Yeah RP. I told you the story of how I won on request o rama a few monthes ago. Only to havet hem tell me that Winter wasn't up tempo enough. Mind you this was at 6 in the morning. Up tempo wasn't on my agenda. We ened up settling on Rocks Off. I lost some respect for Dave Morey. Long time jock around these parts.
Three good (well great actually) stones songs which spring to mind, that i've never heard on the radio are Let It Bleed, Can't You Hear Me knocking and Sway
Let's drink to the hard working people Let's drink to the lowly of birth Raise your glass to the good and the evil Let's drink to the salt of the earth
Say a prayer for the common foot soldier Spare a thought for his back breaking work Say a prayer for his wife and his children Who burn the fires and who still till the earth
And when I search a faceless crowd A swirling mass of gray and black and white They don't look real to me In fact, they look so strange
Raise your glass to the hard working people Let's drink to the uncounted heads Let's think of the wavering millions Who need leaders but get gamblers instead
Spare a thought for the stay-at-home voter His empty eyes gaze at strange beauty shows And a parade of the gray suited grafters A choice of cancer or polio
And when I look in the faceless crowd A swirling mass of grays and black and white They don't look real to me Or don't they look so strange
Let's drink to the hard working people Let's think of the lowly of birth Spare a thought for the rag taggy people Let's drink to the salt of the earth
Let's drink to the hard working people Let's drink to the salt of the earth Let's drink to the two thousand million Let's think of the humble of birth
Lets raise our drink To the salt of the earth Lets raise our drink To the salt of the earth.......
I think the last time this song was aired live was Licks 2003 Twickenham ... sadly. Great song, should be played more. Piano bit towards the end could be improvised to death to make a truly shitkicking version live, wish they'd do things like this. Don't think I've EVER heard it on a radio station.

Last night on Danish night radio I heard Streets Of Love. Then I switched to Radio Horsens and surprise surprise: Don't Stop was on. These two songs seem like radio friendly unit shifters, but they are great.
Good Stones songs that don't get airplay? This could be a very long list although,I've heard Let It Bleed and Can't You Hear Me Knocking many times on the radio. Also,Time Waits For No One gets played once in a long while.I would have to say Let It Loose is the first good song that comes to mind which never seems to get radio play.
Sittin On A fence When Blue Turns To Grey Jivin Sis Fanny (let go, a cover - ) I Dont Know Why (I Love You) Family; Downtown Suzy; Memo From Turner & most of Metamorphosis Dandelion Connection Ventilator Blues Silvertrain Crazy Mama Feel On Baby She Was Hot
I'm also a radio DJ and I (fortunatley) do a show on a station with no playlists, so I can playwhatever I want-- I have been able to get the station on a number of occasions to let me dedicate my entire three hour show to the Stones, and have played all kinds of stuff--unreleased stuff, solo stuff, and always play the stuff you never hear on radio--
