Someone who laid out the cash on the rare occassion he put something out. Apparently NOT someone too stupid to figure out what's done on music message boards.

Led Zeppelin IS his own thing. I don't think he's ever really WANTED to do anything else. He may be that rare type of artist who figures that anything else he's involved with isn't going to be as good as what he's already been involved with so why bother? Anyway, the way I look at it, Plant owes him this. Page was already famous when he picked Plant to be the singer in the New Yardbirds. You might never have heard of Robert if that hadn't happened.

Probably how Plant sees the 2008 Led Zeppelin vs his own solo stuff.

Plant doesn't owe him anything. He has his own artistic vision above and beyond flogging half assed versions of 30-40 year old songs. He will probably eventually do it but he is showing true artistic integrity by doing the music he wants to do, not what brings the biggest paycheck.

We'll see. There was a lot of talk about a reunion tour after Live Aid, and then .... nothing. In every human relationship there are "now or never" moments in which a thing HAS to happen NOW or it never will. In 1974 McCartney ALMOST talked Lennon into working with him again. Lennon left it at not right now but let's leave the door open and who knows maybe someday. You can't do that. That was THE moment when it HAD to happen. John let the moment pass. Then he just wasn't feelin' it anymore. Professionally and personally, he had almost nothing to do with any of the other Beatles after that. And probably never would have.

Again, the same could be said for his relationship with Allison Krauss. Not to mention there was probably an agreement or contract that the album must be toured (as album sales are no longer as profitible).

It's difficult to imagine, that ten years from now, if he had gone on tour with Led Zeppelin instead of Allison Krauss, there would be very many people saying "Oh, if only he had gone on tour with Allison Krauss! That would have been so much more fun than the Led Zeppelin tour he did!"

But would Robert Plant be saying "If only I had been a touring jukebox singing songs I can't sing anymore instead of following my artistic vision?"

Yes, if Page or Jones were to pass away while a Zeppelin tour is still "on the back burner", he might very well say something like that.

"Otisburg? OTISBURG?!"

I thought that show was scheduled for Costa Del Lex...

Well if Zep does'nt tour then it was a pretty cheap tactic on Plant's part to use the one off show to boost his tour with Krauss. I mean really, without the Zep show, there would be very little interest in the Plant/Krauss tour.

Or maybe it was a cheap shot on Ahmet Ertegun's part to not die at a more convenient time so he wouldn't upset any dynamics that were in motion long before they did the 1 gig they were asked to do.

Dan is correct, Its quite obvious from recent interviews with Plant that hes moved on from LZ and sees it as something in his past. If he tours with them, it'll be because he feels obliged to....artistically its NOT what he wants to do anymore...and its to his credit that he hasnt resisted the easy money in reunions for all this time.

But he also hasn't turned down the money made from the recent Zeppelin rereleases either.

sweetcharmedlife: use the Zep gig to boost interest in his Krauss project?
This album acclaimed more postive reviews than any of the Stones albums after Tattoo You world wide.......

And why should he do that, exactly? Sometimes the logic simply stuns me *lol*

Completely different thing. An artist's back catalogue will continue to be an earner without them having to do any work or performing. Going back and attempting to re-create your past by taking part in a reunion tour 30 years later is a different kind of artistic 'statement' entirely.

Naw man, As usual I agree with SCL. That new MOTHERSHIP greatest hits has NOTHING new to offer and is just a repeat of the older greatest hits. At least the latest DOORS release has their albums mixed in 5.1 surround sound with a lot of different beginnings, endings, a few different versions. I mean when Morrison does that JIMBO moan right before HELLO, I LOVE YOU it is such a small thing but so interesting to hear - it somehow expands the song (as well as others that have extras similar to HILY). Zep's new ones are just 100% rehash. If I'm not wrong I believe the song line ups are EXACTLY the same as the older Best Of Vol 1 and 2 - RIP OFF CITY....

Problem with Plant is he has TOO MUCH money, enough to say no to a great idea. Seeing the whole 02 show on YouTube they obviously still have it so let the Kids get to see what all the fuss was/is about......

How many "kids" would be able to afford tickets?

I bet that age group makes up a miniscule portion of the audience, even if lots of kids want to go.

Well getting back to my initial point about the popularity of a Plant/Krauss tour. Yes cthe album is criticaly acclaimed. But so was his last solo album. But when he toured he had problems filling up small theatres. By himself he is not a big commercial draw. So yeah,a little extra pub from the Zep show, will certainly help the tour with Alison Krauss.

I don't think the Zeppelin shows will have any effect at all on the attendence, not if people are convincing themselves there will be a Zeppelin tour in spite of evidence to the contrary. And I really doubt the people whining about Robert Plant's insistence on seeing through his current projects will want to encourage him by actually attending.
