I agree, melillo, Larry should be there... very distinct drumming, U2 would be a very different band without him. I also think Mick Fleetwood should be there, and of course Ringo. Charlie for me is a toss-up... great for the Stones, but as one of rock's greatest drummers, I just don't know. He has done some very key drumming for the Stones, but some of my favorite Stones drumming has actually been Jimmy Miller!! Alex VH and the guy from Iron Maiden are silly choices, I think; those guys are just not special. Phil Collins actually makes sense to me... while I've never cared for his music much, he is an extremely talented drummer. Also Bill Bruford... Where the **** is Bill Bruford?! Again, never a big fan, but boy could he play.
So yeah, the list is indeed rubbish! Perhaps more of a popularity thing rather than a real judgment of talent.
Some weird choices for the top 10. I'm assuming this VH1 is a British version? Just saw Alex VH in concert last week and he was awesome. His solo was better than he did 20 years ago! His stamina was incredible throughout the concert. First time I've seen Nikko from Maiden listed on any list! He's a good drummer but I wouldn't list him in a top 10 list. The current drummer for Judas Priest is very good though. As far as Charlie not being on the list, guys like Phil Rudd and Bun E Carlos fall into his category. Great drummers who just keep the beat!

Well i will say the Stones are the greatest!! I play the drums and Charlie is a good drummer in a great band. However i have some old tapes of Phil Collins playing in a Jazz Fusion style band and let me tell you this. HE is possibly the most underated drummer ever. He was doing stuff on the drum kit that would make most drummers drool!!! Granted you wouldnt know it listening to his stuff from Genesis or his solo "girly" music, but he is not overated at all

Yeah, that Woodstock performance was stunning. He also plays on Emotional Rescue (Dance) and on some of Jagger's solo albums. Great drummer.
I'm not a big Queen fan but I always thought Roger Taylor was a fantastic power drummer.
There's probably another 10 drummers you could put on that list that the general public wouldn't even have heard of starting with Jim Gordon, Jim Keltner and Bill Bruford.
The best modern-rock drummer is beyond doubt Jimmy Chamberlin.

In the voice of comic book guy from The Simpsons 'worst comment ever!'
Beely hit the nail right on the head with his description of Charlie. A description like that, which he deserves, can't translate into one of the two-second sound bytes that fill up each segment on those VH-1 Countdowns which is a big reason why I think Charlie Watts didn't make the list.

Funny thing is ... is that Townsend said Keith was a lousy drummer because he was so erratic but that was his deal, that's what set him apart from other drummers and that what people loved about him (it reflected his personality) I mean you can find lots of technically perfect drummers who make a living as studio musicians but don't conect in a live setting.

When it comes to style, feel and touch, Baker was the man...in the 1960's but if you listen to live Cream recordings, he did make obvious mistakes, but Baker would do things no other drummer would dare do, just listen to the way he kept the beat on many of the live versions of Politcian...all great stuff, even though he plays it different every time.
Speakin' of drummer there is one, who I'm almost sure he aint mentioned yet here (without checkin'): Zoltán Pálmai, the former P Mobil-drummer. Influenced by King Crimson & many other progressive music [vmfc.info]
,,, best or worst, i dont know,, but i fondly remember witnessing baker pounding about on a couple of kits at earl warren show grounds in like '69,, blindfaith,, it was classic,, while not missing a snare he is throwing up to the side and then drinkin his 'milk' from a glass on the stage. it was kinetic, a real eye opener,,,,, he is another one ya need in your band, just on appearance alone..
news flash, abc just reported that richards was pardon'd by huckabee several years ago for a traffic infraction......
