And I heard exactly the same thing at about the same time, but nothing since. Ditto.

If it has any relevance, the 2003 shows in India, Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok were announced only 4-6 weeks in advance.

The Asian audiences are largely drawn from the higher echelons of "Westernised" society anyway. They can afford it ;^)

Last time they were here they played the Indoor Stadium. Good place for a show, about 8,000....was great!

I'm planning an Asia trip (Bangkok, Singapore, perhaps Vietnam and then China) for January - I'll be there between January 5 and January 25, I think. Didn't book yet

Happy for you if it happens.

Do any western rock acts ever play there? I dont recall hearing of any. Is there much or a market for rock music?

Many of them acted in here. well...recently Linkin Park, Starsailor, NIN, Brett Anderson, MUSE, and etc......(last year, James Brown had a concert here!! it was AWESOME!)
Two years ago, A RockFEST,named Pentaport rock festival, was revived. So a lot of rock musicians visited and played in South Korea. Actually most of them visited here while visiting Japan~. The festival's period is around FujiFest's. um..sadly, market for rock music in Korea is not much big. I think..

Yeah, thanks...I hope so too...
They booked the big stadium and the general populace wasn't buying up the expensive pitch'floor seats...
I'm pretty sure the cancellation was due to poor ticket sales, but never heard for sure.

I'm hoping they play the Blaisdell arena, like the Police are...if they do, I highly recommend making the trip out here. Stones in a 7,000 seat arena in paradise is a good thing.
Let's keep fingers crossed....I'll probably fly to Korea & Japan if they don't play here, or I may go no matter what.

It was, no matter how they choose to dress it up otherwise with "scheduling conflicts" and all that nonsense.

Thats what I wondered. I think (rightly or wrongly) South Korea is regarded as a bit more like Japan than a lot of other Oriental countries in terms of embracing western culture - and its always surprised me that we hear about western rocks acts playing places like Thailand, Singapore etc - but never South Korea. I guess festivals like the one you mentioned are a good way of spreading the music there. Thanks for the info - and its good to see you here.

That was my first concert - the Stones at that venue in 1973 -- Mick with his short cut, Keith and Mick T, a quick 80 minute set with mostly "newer" material from Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Exile. I would love to see them there again and come full circle . .

Wow, I've only met a few people who went to the '73 gigs here...
I have the boots and the concert program to help me imagine.

The venuw probably hasn't changed too much since then. It's nothing fancy, but the acoustics are good and the arena is small with great sight lines all around.
I've seen the Who, Eagles, Billy Joel and all were great shows. Next is the Police in there, so looking forward to that....if they played the stadium, not so much.

Yeah, my Mother-in-law went to that one...so she's ok as far as Mothers-in-laws go...lol

It was called the H.I.C. back then...Honolulu International Center...
It's not a state of the art venue by any means but it's a much better place to see a show than the ol' rust bucket stadium, that's for sure.
During the ABB tour, the Stones were rumored (here locally) that they would play Blaisdell but they wound up booking the stadium, which I'll take rather than no show at all.

For 6 months, The Police were rumored to play the stadium but they booked the Blaisdell Arena.
So in that case, the venue makes a big difference to me. I got row A loge perched over the stage so I'm looking forward to it. Never seen them before so why not.

Just a week before, in fact.

Elvis' show was 14th January (and the back-up show - also released officially - a couple of days earier)

Stones were, what, 21st and 22nd?

Yes, that's right. Three shows, two nights. ZZ Top warmed up. I think my ticket was $6.50

It'd still be nice if they at least announced it a month in advance... If it is going to happen in February won't they at least have to book the venue now?

I'll be perfectly happy if the concert happens inside a crowded hotel room, but somehow I think tickets will be hard to come by in that case. (and the seats will be very expensive) Oh, and when I yell "Happy!", Keith won't be content with merely replying "yes, I am too", but will probably knock off my block given the hypothetical proximity.

Man, the parking cost alone for the BLaisdell is now $10...lol
The Stones should play Hawaii again, and they can bring ZZ Top with them too.
