There is so much recorded material circulating from the '81 tour. The vast majority of the shows played are available as soundboard recordings. Any opinions on what are the best shows/recordings out there? My favorites include.......


Cedar Falls 11/20/81
New Orleans 12/5/81
Tempe 12/13/81
Hampton 12/18/81

I already have quite a few shows from this tour. Are there any smoking performances out there that I need to hear? How are the Dallas shows? Orlando? Chicago? What are your favorite shows from '81?

I was lucky enough to attend the New Orleans show. At the time I believed it to be a considerable upgrade from the 1st Orlando show of that 81 tour.

i'm partial to the philadelphia shows , new jersey , and hampton virginia

Dallas I is definitely one of the best stadium shows!

New Orleans 12/05/81 has always been my favorite. Great recording and performance.

i like the san francisco ar bootlegs very much...i dont like the sb!!

Hartford in '81 was the best show to me...only because it was the only show I saw that tour...

Rockford is very very good!!

I like the energy of Rockford. Killer version of Under My Thumb that seems to go on longer than normal. I also liked Boulder first show. I could have sworn Keith and Ronnie traded slide licks on LIB that day. Seattle was very strong as well. There are so many of these shows available it is hard to narrow them down.

I remember the Boulder bootleg!!! how could i forget!! this AR recording is so great...this drunk gall laughing ha h ha!! im so sad i sold it!! maybe hot stuff??

Same for me

1st East Rutherford, both Hartford, Cedar Falls, New Orleans, Hampton Roads
...and 2nd Seattle, Lexington and Tempe

Hartford was HOT! THe Stones love the Civic Center there and always sound great in that arena. I saw more than one show that tour and Hartford was by far the best!

I was at the first show in Philly in 1981, and I know how badly the Stones played. Train wrecks all afternoon.

Question:
The people who say how good the Stones were in Philly in 81...
Can I assume that they're talking about day 2 on the boot?

Any show that Prince was forced to leave by has second song.

Hard to see past hampton first night, but Tempe and Atlanta are pretty good too.

Rockford's a nice one too, but in general I think the tour really picked up after the first month or so.

I wish i could hear the Dallas show!!

the philadelphia shows are sloppy but other shows later in the tour are much better

down the road apiece...was so wild!!

Buffalo is also really sloppy, but there's such a great mood on stage, it's a very fun listen.

In addition to all the shows mentioned here, there are other great ones;
St Paul, the 2 last Largo shows, Louisville, all Chicago shows....

A few weeks ago I was leafing thru' an old issue of ROLLING STONE and the hot show being reviewed was The Stones at The Brendan Byrne Arena. A 'powerhouse' it was described as. What's the story?

"I'll be in my basement room with a needle and a spoon."

No doubt about it, Hampton, VA 19th December 1981. Blew the previous night out of the water. I was at both.

good show
but jersy in Dec was bettre

I went to both shows at Candlestick Park in The City in mid October, but I didn't go to any others, so I have no idea how they compared to any others.

From the start, this tour was given rave reviews. I always believed Wenner was attempting to atone for the wretched reviews the magazine had given the 78 tour.
