Well, As I said months ago - Madonna will get in so they can sell the broadcast rights to the highest bidder. If Leonard Cohen was the draw (by the way - I like Leonard), the show would be broadcast on the Weather Channel.
Then again, the Weather Channel is the most watched cable channel. You understand where I am coming from.
Still...no one ever considers nominating Neil Diamond?

Looks like a good list for a change. Madonna deserves it, as much as I rag on her LA ISLA BONITA and LIVE TO TELL were both the beginning of some really good work (lot of crap in between the good ones but the good ones are ALWAYS there.....
I've got no problem inducting Madonna into a Hall of Fame, given her accomplishments, but if it's this one, they really should change the name. Rock & Roll, she ain't. She's not the first misplaced legend either.
The expression "rock n roll" in the title is pretty meaningless and always has been..its just a catch-all expression to give the whole thing a snappy title...people get very worked up every year over taking the title literally for some reason...
lets face it, most of the great music acts have been inducted by now
I say BOYCOTT anything that has to do with the shit that is the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame..Madonna-Rock and Roll??????? I dont freakin' think so....what the hell does she have to do with rock and roll...Its INSANE...

Yes, in 1988 Tull's Crest Of A Knave album won the Grammy for Best Heavy Metal Or Hard Rock Performance. They are, however, NOT in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame.

she doesnt, but then again, neither do the following, strictly speaking:
Bobby Darin (1990) Simon & Garfunkel (1990) Bob Marley (1994) The Jackson Five (1997) The Mamas and the papas (1998) Miles Davis (2006)
Nor the acts inducted as 'early influences' such as Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger etc.
theyre all inducted due to musical accomplishment, and as the most successful female recording artist of all time, in that respect she fits the bill.
Its no comment on the artists in question. I just think it bizarre that anyone in 2007 a) takes this Jann Wenner ego-fest seriously or b) takes the 'rock n roll' aspect of the hall of fame name literally.

Michael Jackson and the Jackson 5 should have not been inducted years ago either besides Madonna. There are british invasion, san francisco and hard rock and heavy metal bands that deserve to be in the hall of fame over that stuff.

Cohen's induction is long overdue in my book.
still no Iggy or the Stooges, if I'm not mistaken, though. A serious oversight.
