Some of us DO have a problem with a musician being too loaded to perform properly - yes. It might surprise you that not everyone is impressed with drug addiction.

do you really think i care where you all from???
maradona was a fantastic player and he will always be remebered as that. it's more then 20 years ago and no one who's seriously interested in soccer would doubt that maradon is among the 3 best players ever lived.

so all you ENGLISHMEN get over it...maybe with a little help of some drugs.....;-)

Yes

No ones denying that

He will, but he'll also be remembered for the darker side of his character as well, unfortunately.

he's certainly up there, although "untouchably the greatest soccer player of all time" as you said a while ago is certainly debatable.

The best was when Maradona was blubbing like a baby in the 1990 final.

After that he just turned to blubber!

(yes I am English)

Beckham is the most overated footballer of the last 30 years.

Maradonna's hand of god goal still sticks in my English throat after 21 years but I have to admit that his other goal in that game in Mexico 86 was sublime.

Beckham was one of the players that played in one of the greatest midfields ever: Giggs - Scholes - Keane - Beckham. (Giggsy and Scholes are still excellent btw)
So... If you are one of them... you can play.

Beckham was also the reason why Madrid eventually won the league last year. Being dropped from the team was the best motivation, because he played excellent after that... while the rest of Madrid looked tired and lame.

The game was last night. 48000 people watched and the game ended 0-0! Beckham played around 75 minutes, which was more than the 45 he had to.
I didn't go but from what I read, most were happy just to see him play, regardless of the score.

In the overrated English premiership Beckham was able to shine. But when it came to World Cup and European Championship tournaments he was anonymous. Hardly the sign of a world class player.

In my opinion Maradona is the greatest player ever (and I am English). Pele was surrounded by great players Maradona wasn't which makes his achievement in the 1986 World Cup finals and with Napoli (hardly the most fashionable of teams) all the greater.

The other great player of the last 40 years are Beckenbauer, Cruuyff and Zidane.

Comparing David Beckham to Maradona is like comparing Mick Jagger to Keith Richards. They are both great - among the very best - but they are still so very different.

Beckham and Maradona are differnt types of player;

Maradona is Keith Richards and Beckham is Cliff Richards.

Beckham's not in the same league as Pele, Maradona etc etc. But he could/can (on a good day) still set up a goal with surgical accuracy, and then there were his near miraculous talents with free kicks. LA Galaxy bought into the Beckham brand - a good looking bloke who could look good holding a mouldy cucumber - rather than his talents.

a couple of years ago there was a - I don't remember whether world cup or Euro Cup - qualifier match, the last one in the group England vs Greece in England. A draw is enough for England to qualify. 90. min. England/Greece 1-2. Freekick for England in the 91. min. The last chance for England. Beckham scored, England qualified. Only excellent players can do that.

Beckham is a marketing product. That's all. There are 100 players better than him. Even a few years ago. He has a good free kick, but that's all. He can't pass a defender,.... Clubs buy him because of the financial impact that he has....

Giggs, Scholes and Keane are/were far better players than Beckham imo. Giggs was amazing back in the 90's and he's ageing and adapting his game well. Scholes is still one of the very best and there was only one Roy Keane. A true United Legend.

Balls! winking smiley

I was lucky enough to be present in what was (probably) the only time Best and Cruyff played in the same game (Northern Ireland v Holland, 1977). Even though both were past their peak, they were both fantastic.
