The Faces - US Tour january 2008 - Bill Wyman on bass ?

According to a french Rod Stewart message board (quoting Rod interview in a german newspaper), The Faces US Tour is scheduled to begin next january.

On the same message board, Bill Wyman is rumoured to hold the bass during this tour (USA, then UK, Netherlands, Germany and Belgium sometimes in 2008).

I doubt he'd be willing to 'hold' any bass anywhere beyond Heathrow Airport

..and if he thinks the Stones should have quit years ago and that they arent really a proper band anymore (see bv's thread), what does that say about the Faces - a band who broke up in 1975?

We will see about Bill. The Rythm Kings were not a bunch of angry young men either, so who knows?

Meanwhile I am thrilled and nervously pacing the room waiting for the anouncement of the ticket sales.

Other rumours have suggested that Jesse Wood will play bass on this tour.

Maybe Bill's just going to hold it for him until he drops by to pick it up on his way to the airport?

I really don't care if Bill tours with the Faces but I would be very excited about seeing Rod and Ronnie together with Ian playing all of those great Faces tunes! I am sick of seeing Rod performing classics from the 40's!! DAMN, what a waste!

You hit the nail right on the head....Rod needs some help and Woody and Mac are the only two really qualified to help him with the exception of Jeff Beck.

It all sounds like BS to me. This is the ONLY place this has been rumored. Very few acts start a tour in the US in January as it is winter here. Certainly not an act the caliber of The Faces.

That said, I hope I'm dead wrong.

I read on a Dutch message board that Wolfie Van Halen will be playing bass...

Why would Rod tour with the Faces?...like I said before...the U.S. audience doesn't really know the Faces besides 40+ and older...their records have been out of print for decades....

Rod just toured and I doubt he'd be willing to tour again right away....

who knows...

But if it does happen, count me in...

But I really can't imagine Ronnie Wood holding down guitars all by himself.

Great opportunity for Bill to pick up young chicks once again, Viagra will be the tour sponsor.

My dad (77) will be disappointed. Maybe I will buy him a ticket to the show so he can see what the real Rod is all about.

This applies to Rod also, it seems that about every 10 years or less Rod trades in his wife for a new younger model.

Maybe the fact that the did break up in '75 is what would make it OK for Bill. If the Stones had broke up in 75 and were now considering a reunion maybe Bill would have been up for that as well. just a thought.

As for as i'm concerned its pretty irrelevant who they get on bass as ronnie Lane was far more than a bas player in the band, songriter, singer and by all accounts and in Ian McLagens words "the heart and soul of the faces, when he left we became rod stewart and the faces" Bill would serve the purpose no better or worse than any other decent bass player.

How come no one mentions Tetsu for the bass job, in fact he never seems to get mentioned in any context, has he been written out of the history books.

as an aside, if the stones had broke up circa 75 and after 3 deacades of rumours agreed to a one of gi ala LZ, what price those tickets !!!!!!

What size venues could it play...especially in the USA? They were not a big deal here. Rod's guarantee is huge and if it were to play theaters tickets could be in the $300 range. I could see a tour hitting a few markets and that's about it.

Michael Anthony is available for bass duties.

ive seen young Jesse Wood play bass and he's quite good. he has some of the look and mannerisms of his father which is fun to see too. hope this happens.

I'd prefer to see Tetsu over anyone else on bass . . . even Macca. Tetsu was in the lineup the one and only time I saw Faces perform live, in Los Angeles in 1975 or 1974.

Ronnie will supposedly be busy with the Stones beginning around February or March, so that's a major conflict that would prevent him form playing with Faces and without Ronnie, they would not tour.

Rod proposed solo tour of Australia and NZ in February 2008.....

Just as long as they have a bartender on stage (as they did for the Hollywood Palladium show in 1972 or 3). When Ronnie Lane left, so did the Bartender, The following year when they played the same venue, Lane was gone and so was the Bartender, but I fully expect to see Rod's microphone attached to his stand using a whole roll of masking tape!

They could take a bus for the tour. Having said that, I though Bill was slowing down and not ready for the bigger tours, but you never know. Is there a difference in Faces and Stones nostalgia? Did the Faces release a new studio album? Did I miss something?

Chronologically, Faces' music is closer to the standards that Rod has been singing lately than it is to contemporary rock.

I don't have kids, but maybe someone who does can tell me: Do teen-agers roll their eyes and reach for the radio dial when "Stay with Me" comes on and switch to a station that doesn't play music for old fogies?

If a Faces tour is seriously being considered, I'd like to propose Ian Hunter and Mott the Hoople as the opening band,

Plenty of acts tour here in January. If the Stones are touring in the Spring then January or the end of the year may be the only realistic options for a Faces tour. Not sure what caliber a Faces tour would be to be honest, it could be huge or it could over like the last Electric Light Orchestra tour.

Hi, as a Rod fan, I sofar have only heard rumours about Faces back together. Speaking of tour, I think you Stones fans should see this "tour thing" a bit different than a Stones tour. I think (if there's any true in it at all) it would be a few concerts. Perhabs 3-4 in USA and a couple in London. The Faces should be rereleased on CD, now it says 2008. So maybe do some concerts, made a DVD and that's it. Rod on tour, have been most of 2007. And will be "down under" early 2008. So no "huge" tour with Faces. I don't think so anyway.

I could picture Bill everywhere there except USA.

Funny you should mention this. Just the other day while I had a Faces mixed CD on in my car, when stay with me came on, my 18 year old son was impressed. He said the beginning sounds like it could be a Stones song. My son's first real exposure to the Rolling stones was this summer when I took him to Ireland to see them at Slane, Now Start Me Up, Satisfaction, SFTD, and YCAGWYW are on his IPOD. But he tells me that he thinks the studio version of YCAGWYW is ruined by all those ladies singing at the beginning of the song. Kids, go figure.

I hope 'mannerisms' doesnt mean that 2 out of the onstage musicians would be waving to the crowd instead of playing! smiling smiley

(He is pretty good though. Think I saw him in Ronnie's band when he played Dublin 6 years ago)

Saw Mac open in San Antonio last year - The Bump Band Rocked. To me this would be a dream. Think I'll spin a video I have of the Faces on an old seventies concert show, can't remember the name right now.

Bill on bass or not, Here's to Faces concerts!
