Blondie played with Johansen. Maybe he's part of the backing band and they're counting on his Stones connection to increase ticket sales.

Sumlin played BB Kings in Nyc a few years back, and it sold out fast. 1000 seats plus. This show sounds great, any chance to see Hubert shouldn't be passed up. I find it odd the show's in Yonkers.

I saw Hubert back in March at the HOB in Vegas. He was in Kenny Wayne Shepherd's band along side with Pinetop Perkins, Buddy Flett, Chris Layton and a few others that were on Kenny's Ten Days Out project.

During the encore which Hubert was not part of sat off to the side of the stage behind a side curtain stomping his feet and sporting a huge smile. It was nice seeing someone like Hubert with such a rich history watching a young gun like Kenny and really getting into it.

blondie is a great guitarist and musician in his own right- he knows his blues and worked the sessions for huberts last album. He's either toured or taken a role on an album with almost all of the other named guests....I guess that might have something to do with his inclusion....

i think his solo stuff sounds pretty good -

i also have a gem of a blondie guest CD in hallvard T. bjorgum & Co. i met hallvard in london and he gave me the CD. VERY nice vocals by blondie. almost yodeling, but cooler.

Oh, the Freelander-album? That's just great. With Rick Danko, Garth Hudson, Eric Andersen, Blondie, Jonas Fjeld and some really interresting musicians from Baku. Love the album! Met Hallvard at the Savoy, too. Now, that's a character - a rel musician. Did he play the harding fiddle for you, that 8-string wonder with the peculiar sound?

I think the Yonkers show for Hubert sounds great! David Johansen, Blondie and Levon Helm - I'd definitely go and see their solo shows - so, yes! Go there, and if you're lucky, Blondie's best pal turns up, too. (KR)

no but he sang me a couple of songs in the taxi on the way to the last 02 show. he gave me the CD and told me not to look at it then. yes, a real character and good guy. i can thank him for getting me into the rattlesnake, last minute and i enjoy the CD.

Keith Richards and Blondie are guest playing together at times. Also, Keith plays two tracks on the Hubert Sumlin album released early 2005. Some rumours are telling Keith might be there. Don't count on it, but if you are in NYC anyway why don't you just get a ticket and enjoy the show?

See IORR news from 2004: [iorr.org]

Keith contributes guitar and backing vocals on two tracks -- "Still A Fool" and "Little Girl, This is the End" -- on the new album by Hubert Sumlin, Howlin' Wolf's former guitarist. The album, "About Them Shoes" will be released on Jan. 25 in the U.S. by Tone Cool/Artemis Records.

Keith's on three tracks on that album - those two plus I Love the Life I Live.
and i sure would be at that event, if it were taking place on a more convenient continent. :E

It'll be a great event....

Haven't heard much from the New York Dolls camp lately...it's back to the blues for David Johansen.

"Free Field" it's called. They do a great version of Rag Mama Rag.
Rick Danko doesn't play on the album, though.

Wonder if "Steady Rolling No Controling" Bob Margolin will be there?

Bob played lead guitar for Muddy Waters 1973-1980. In recent years Hubert has guested at some of Bob's shows.

Bob was kind of the musical director for Hubert's CD "About Them Shoes" which both Keith and Blondie played on.

In regard to BV's post, I am in the USA and I bought "About Them Shoes" a couple of years ago at a Virgin record shop. So it is out in the USA right now and a good listen. Lot's of guests including Keith, Blondie, Eric Clapton, Levon Helm and others. Probably because of so many star guests the CD was delayed a couple of times before it was released.

Anyway, go to Hubert's web site and check out the Mp3's from the CD.

David Johansen, like Blondie & Keith, is on several tracks on Hubert's "About Them Shoes" cd (which is excellent). Blondie plays a variety of instruments as well as vocals.

I thought Hubert Sumlin would be closer to 176... he must have been quite young when he joined Howlin' Wolf's band. I guess they really did have a father-son relationship. I hope Hubert is getting a fair cut of the take for this rather expensive show and all the gigging he's been doing.
