U2 Joke

Bono, the lead singer of the band U2, is famous throughout the entertainment industry for being more than just a little self-righteous.
At a recent U2 concert in Glasgow , Scotland , he asked the audience for total quiet. Then, in the silence, he started to slowly clap his hands, once every few seconds
Holding the audience in total silence, he said into the microphone, "Every time I clap my hands, a child in Africa dies."
A voice with a broad Scottish accent, from the front of the crowd, pierces the quiet ............

"Well, foockin stop doin it then!"

That's funny! I think it's actually one of those 'urban legends'. Found this site where it's mentioned: [www.snopes.com]

Also on that page is a story about Ron Wood lost a chance to join the Rolling Stones in 1969 because he missed a phone call.....Anyone heard of that? [www.snopes.com]

This incident happened for real in Croke Park in Dublin.

Ron Wood did miss a chance to join the Stones in '69 when one of the faces answered the phone, pretended to be Ronnie and declined the offer.

>> Anyone heard of that? <<

yeah, in various versions - i'm not convinced that any of them are real reliable.
one version is that whoever made the call neglected to specify which Ronnie they meant,
and that it was Ronnie Lane who declined - oops sorry! i see that version is mentioned in that link.

Bono spoke at the Labour Party conference a few years back, I think about Live 8. He started his speech by apologising, as he was not used to "such a small number of people". Not the exact words, but the gist of them. Funniest opener at a political conference for decades.

Q: What's the difference between Bono and God?

A: God doesn't think he's Bono.

Very funny, in all honesty maybe Bono has good intentions, but he takes himself too seriously...

These guys really piss me off.
Bono, Bob Geldof, Sting etc. They preach to us all about giving and charity saving the planet and all that but in no way practise what they prach.
If they gave the same percentage of their wealth as they expect the ordinary Joe public to give there would be no problems.
Let some of the poor in Africa stay in some of their many houses/hotels around the world or give the scraps from their wasteful and extravagent banquets.
What percentage of resources that could sustain many other lives are they hoarding?
They are full of shit!!
At least the Stones aren't pretentious and don't apperar to get too involved in this nonsense

Are you familiar with the things those three you mentioned have done for the third world and our poor planet? You have the right to despise them, but don´t call it nonsense, because it isn´t.

Agreed. They at least make global issues front page news. Otherwise your stuck with the Church that everyone ignores or politicians who eveyone mistusts.

As far as I'm informed Bono IS indeed spending a lot of money for his campaigns to support poor countries.

I agree that one can rightly discuss the maybe questionable mixture of music (art) and politics, but about Bono's (and some other's) intentions I have no doubt.

Okay, I hope you will not kill me here, admitting that I am a U2 fan too. But the jokes above are good ones - I think that a lot of the stuff that Bono does is good, but on the other hand...I don't know how much he spends on charity, but I am sure that money means a lot to him (and U2). Looking back at the last 2 tours (last 8 years) - they only gave one concet in the whole area in central and Eastern Europe. Did anybody counted how many concerts there were in North America during that time? It is just bigger money-grab. (Stones gave a LOT of concerts around here during last 20 years) Another interesting thing is that all of the U2 CDs and DVDs since 2000 have been released in November/ December (except of the PopMart re-release in August). Just another money-grab.

Yes he's really an unpleasant character. He's been licking the arse of the prez/P.M. of France USA and Great Britain about Africa. And guess what? These 3 countries are in the world's top-5 arms sellers.
Hey Bonehead, the solution was before your nose : these people are part of the problem. They'll NEVER be part of the solution for Africa and the whole Third World's problems. Arsehole!

Yet another old joke..........here's a new non-U2 joke..........A guy walks into a pharmacy and asks the pharmacist for a condom with pesticide on it. The pharmacist asks the man why he wants a condom with pesticide on it. The man replys, well my wife has had a bug up her ass for years and I want to see if I can kill it.smiling smiley
