Landmark Hotel, LA, heroin overdose. Still suspicious circumstances. I believe someone was w/her when she died and they ran.

I use to jam with a woman (from Texas) who sounded just like Janis, Over the next few days I will try to upload a video of us from about 30 years ago, and I promise you it will be much better quality than my Brown Sugar Video.

God bless her.

What a pity she died. It's stupid to say one death is more stupid than another, but Janis' death really feels unnecessary and wasted, because she wasn't a drug addict and she could have stayed away from that shit. Like I once said before, if Keith had taken her heroin he wouldn't have died...yet people expected him to die in the '70s.

She's one of the few singers I really miss. Can you imagine what she would be like now? She'd be ripping up the airwaves, talking about studio track tricks. I really miss her. She was my first real 60s icon, after the The Beatles. My mother hated it when I'd put her records (those came before CDs, kids) on.

She did the best ever version of me and bobby macgee, gets me every time.
I like the tribute that pink pays Janis with that song.

'Down on Me' is my fav Janis song.

Say, has anyone got their hands on the Big Brother record that was released about a month ago? It's called 'One Night With Janis: Matrix Club SF '67'

That "scream" in Piece of My Heart" ... still gives me the shivers each and every time I hear it. I nearly imploded with ecstasy when Ronnie and Beverly Knight did that tune at Ronnie's 13th March 2005 gig at Drury Lane.

Her death was a total waste. She didn't really know what she was doing with heroin, and rarely used it. Apparently she bought it when depressed about getting dumped by her boyfriend. There is also a story that the smack wasn't cut enough, and that other people died from the same batch.

She was backstage at MSG1 1969. She did a duet w/Tina and harrassed the band backstage and onstage. When Mick said, "This next number asks the question do you want to live with me?", she screamed from onstage, "You don't have the balls!"

She did too know what she was doing w/heroin. She was addicted for most of 1969 and kicked it. She began using when recording "Pearl" and used it intermittently. Yes, the smack was very pure and there was a record number of smack related deaths in the LA area that w/end.

I still think someone pushed her accidentally and then fled. Somebody did come into the room, remove her stash, and then return and replace it. It's odd. But there won't be any answers this far along...

America's greatest Blues and Soul singer may very well have been a white woman. She makes the hairs on my arms stand up she digs so deep. Very few singers can run out on a limb with the voice, heart and courage of this woman. She leaves blood on the stage. It is very sad that she did not get to realize her place in American music history.

I'd pay concert fees just to hear her do a 12 minute version of "Ball & Chain."
Whew!

Baboon, there's a lot of talk about the suspicious circumstances of her death. Not the OD, but the 'movement' surrounding it, and I don't mean bowel.... eye rolling smiley

I saw a REALLY good tribute act to her in Germany last year, called KOSMIC BLUE or COSMIC BLUE, she really sounded like her!

A friend of mine in Germany went to see another Janis tributeact last night, who wer playing in his home town to mark the 37 years since her demise.

Swedish original singer Caroline af Ugglas made
a great Joplin-cover-album in the beginning of this year.
We had a thread on her. Here is her site [www.carolineafugglas.com]
