$588,255,524....now there's a business model

NASHVILLE - The final tally on the Rolling Stones A Bigger Bang
tour is in and it topped a half billion - $558,255,524 to be exact.
The staggering total was accumulated between the fall of 2005 and Aug.
26, when the tour wrapped at the O2 in London after a run of European
makeup dates.
The box office gross figure, which was provided to Billboard by
longtime Stones tour producer Michael Cohl, is plenty enough to make A
Bigger Bang the top grossing tour in history. In fact, the tour
already owned that honor after passing U2's Vertigo, which topped out
at $389 million. The previous mark had been the Stones' $320 million
Voodoo Lounge tour of 1994-95.
The 144 shows on A Bigger Bang drew a paid attendance of 4,680,000,
according to Cohl.
The tour was certainly not without its challenges, including the
now infamous fall from a tree in Fiji by guitarist Keith Richards in
April 2006.
``It was a long tour, but more than anything it was fantastic,''
Cohl tells Billboard. ``We had to overcome a lot; this was like
Homer's Odyssey. There were all sorts of difficulties to overcome and
it turned out to be just one amazing triumph.''
Live Nation recently purchased the remaining interest in Cohl's
CPI, including CPI's merchandising and marketing arms, and Cohl still
sits on the Live Nation board.

I sum up all members of audience who are listed on iorr.
I don't know, if these numbers are correct, maybe a bit too high.

2005: 1.256.000
2006: spring 883.000
summer 1.020.000
fall 706.000
=> total 2006: 2.609.000
2007: 1.189.000

2005-2007: 5.054.000
---
"The 144 shows on A Bigger Bang drew a paid attendance of 4,680,000,
according to Cohl."
So our attandance-number wasn't that wrong...just 350.000 off the mark

His claims add up...

I think it works out to an average audience of 32,000 paying an average of $120. per ticket over 144 shows...seems possible that these numbers are in the ballpark.

However...what about the merchandise and endorsements and sponsorships?

I suppose the paid audience according to Cohl is the correct number. A high number though I admit I was wrong thinking well over the magic figure of 5,000,000. Mr.Cohl should adjust drastically his model : announce the dates of the shows well in advance and market, advertise them.

Paid attendance would therefore exclude Rio, which would then bring total attendance to almost 6 million?

Let's emphasise the word BUSINESS.

...and while you suckers pay anything up to 25% in tax, they pay in the region of just 6%.

That's why they just HAVE to play stadiums...they wouldn't get out of bed otherwise.

they're also leaving out the Superbowl and the private Deutsch Bank show
since those wouldn't count when calculating gross income from ticket sales.
in terms of total attendance (paid + unpaid) i guess three numbers at the Superbowl might not "really" count either

Tamking about the Super Bowl...Where this edition ranks among the top ones?

Could we say that the Stones halftime mini-concert was the most ever view by a TV audience?

Not sure if I should be proud the Stones broke this record. Next time ticket prices could be even higher.

Is this attendance number with Rio (about 6.000.000) is the biggest so far of The Stones???
