Tour gimmick--it would never happen but still a cool idea
Date: September 30, 2007 10:01

Remember how during B2B they had an internet vote for one fan song choice per show?

Wouldn't it be cool if the Stones posted some (say 10?) complete setlists on rs.com for fans to choose from and vote on for them to play?

Whichever setlist had the most votes on a posted deadline would be the one played for a given show, but the results wouldn't be known until showtime so you'd have to purchase a ticket to find out or learn later you missed a great setlist.

So instead of the current trend that fans already know 85% of what will be played at any given Stones concert, I think this would spice things up a little and maybe help fill stadiums and arenas that have had empty sections/rows/seats.

One or more of the setlist choices could be from a previous tour or classic show.
"Hey, maybe tonight they'll play MSG '69 or Brussels '73 !"

Of course, they'd have to be on tour for this to happen.
Hope so!

sorry,but i assume that the
"common stones ticket holder of nowadays" would not risk that .
most of the people just like to hear the warhorses, that they paid for

The old shows' set lists would be way too short for the modern ticket prices.

I have my reservations about that "vote" thing for B2B.

Seems like Star Star got picked for a lot of shows, and I don't think the "average" fan really knows that one.

i thoght it was a cool idea too.
i got Star Star in DC and Under My Thumb in Charlotte NC (which, i'm sorry , sounded awful) i voted on Waitin on a Friend

I wonder how many ideas they took from requests on Bigger Bang Tour?

Well I guess it depends on how you look at it I guess...
I think for today's modern ticket prices we shuold get great setlists!

BTW-they can always drag out the songs like they do nowadays for JJF, Brown Sugar, Satisfaction, Midnight Rambler etc... those are long songs now...extended solos.

Here's a crazy "gimmick"...go on stage, just The Stones..no one else, @#$%& the pyrotechnics, forget the elaborate stage and lights...pick up your instruments and play for the moment.

Do not perform your songs, play them, or better yet, let the music play the band.

That was actually their normal mode of operation from 1962 to 1969. They still had setlists for reference though.
Blame KISS! lol

I remember submitting my setlist on rs.com prior to ABB and there I was in Fenway Park on opening night and it they played 14 of the songs I had on my setlist and very close to the order I listed. I didn't request any ABB songs as I didn't know them yet and they played Ray Charles-Night Time instead of my cover song request of "(Love that) Dirty Water" by the Standells. The Fenway crowd would have gone bezerk had they played that one.

I think it was mostly coincidence my setlist request was close as I didn't stray too far from the norm. I did request Shattered, Heartbreaker, Beast of Burden and Bitch (played on night 2) which aren't played every night.

Some other songs I requested showed up later, i.e. Midnight Rambler, Gimme Shelter, Ruby Tuesday.

I'm sure by the volume of requests rs.com received, the majority of their catologue was covered.
The question would be, "Did anyone request an extreme rarity that was played?"

I also submitted a 24 song setlist and they played 22, so that was close.
I think they play 19 song shows now most of the time...

It's still nice that they ask for our opinion...and that's how rs.com cultivates new e-mail addresses for future members.

Like you say, they do that anyway. If they were to repeat a vintage set list there would only be another 11 songs besides the ones you mention. These days,we have Jumping Jack Flash,Brown Sugar,Satisfaction, many times Midnight Rambler plus another 14 to 17 songs unless the set lists shrink further (compared to '75 and '81-'02) in the future.

I can't imagine an eight minute I'm Free or Dancing With Mr. D.

there could be a vote for clubs and special shows in small venues played only for real fans.
cool, relax attitude, a bit like El Mocambo. And we would not care if they @#$%& up a bit some songs !

Well, at one time I couldn't imagine an 8 minute JJF, Brown Sugar or Satisfaction either...

do ya know how great it would be to have a special club gig with all rarely or never played songs before, do it by lottery only to keep out the creep brokers,
when i won tix to the ten spot gig, scalpers were screwed, they could not get in
for anything, you had to have ID and wristband as you entered the bus, same for my guest

Scalpers usually don't intend to get in, they want to sell the tickets for a huge premium.

well i mean that they could not even do that, should have said get the tix not get in, my mistake, but they could not get theyre hands on them is what i meant

Yeah...I'm glad promoters take those measures for the club & theater gigs...otherwise those tix would go for thousands on the secondary market.
