There was an advertisement for Mick's Very-Best-of collection in the front section of The New York Times on Sunday, Sept. 30, on a page with international news.

Typically, pop music ads in the front section of the Times are rare. It's like they are aiming to rope in buyers who haven't set inside of a music store in a long time. Ads in the Times' front section don't come cheaply; just ask Moveon.org. Mick's ad was not a full page, however.

Maybe the marketing for this album is more strategic and aggressive than usual.

Just ordered my copy, the Deluxe package with DVD, from Amazon.com and it's on sale for $20.99+ 3.98 shipping. That's a better price han Best Buy! I will have it Thursday or Friday! Can't wait!

mickschix, I was going to go to BestBuy later today. Am I better off ordering it from Amazon? I didn't realize they would be offering it at a better price.

It's $19.99 at Circuit City and no shipping charges to buy in the store, plus you'll have it today! Cant wait goin on lunch!

What is Circuit City? I just rang BestBuy in Toronto and they don't have it. Was going to order it from Amazon.ca but they don't have the CD/DVD package (just the CD). Amazon.com does but their shipping charge to Canada is high and it takes 7-11 days and I will be away (out of the country) by then.

DAMN, we have no Circuit City around here but yes, Marmalade, you are better of going with Amazon than Best Buy! You never have to leave your home, if you order today, you will have it by the weekend for less than $24. At Best Buy, it was $23.99 plus tax. I know, not alot of savings really, not even with Circuit City because by the time you drive there, pay the tax, it amounts to a $1.50 savings!!

Thanks, mickschix, but my spouse just rang - was able to get the DVD/CD package at another BestBuy (different location from the one I rang), and picked it up for me. It cost $30, but ordering from amazon.com would have been $20.99 + $7.99 shipping, so the difference isn't all that great.

...well Keith must really like this Mick compilation.......he hasn't said squat yet.

all this promotion, but it must be hard to sell. who besides stones fans remembers any of the songs? and stones fans don't need to buy it. the most commercial tracks are mostly the worst, by far, while the best are fairly purist blues and country.

they should just rerelease Wandering Spirit as a "20th-Century Masterpiece."

I have heard there's footage of the audience from the Boston Garden from both '72 & '75, Debra! Were you wearing your top at those shows? eye rolling smiley

Well, my top was semi-on....depending on where Mick was on the stage at any given moment! I was at ALL of those Boston shows from '72 and '75! Those were the days! Oh, and never fear, Keith will toss his 2 pence in, sooner or later....the jealous knave!

Mick and Rhino are doing some great PR for his solo release. I bet it pays off..........better than the ABB/Virgin release I think.

It's the one with DVD too; would that make it the deluxe version? I just clicked on the music bestsellers list, rather than pop or any other category.

I agree most people won't know/remember the tracks. But the words 'Mick Jagger' and 'greatest hits' will lure most people in. I still don't see it burning the charts, it'll do just okay.

This is ominous:

I have made three trips to my local Borders in the last 10 days or so looking for this. I wanted to buy at Borders so that I could use a $5.00 off coupon.

I am just back from trip number three and still could not find it. When I asked the dude on duty, he said they had just one copy and sold it. He then said he does not expect to get anymore. WTF?

This includes the DVD and Standalone CD edition.

Again: WTF?

I'm tired, I'm tired of doing what I'm told.
Things are moving way too slow.

Hmmmmm....it's been out nearly a week on www.play.com and now stands at no. 62 (one place behind Mark Knopfler's newest offering)

I just don't think the world cares too much ;-)

I have to say I'm completely unsure of how it will do. At first I thought horrible b/c I went to a Borders and Virgin Megastore in NYC and neither were out front like new CDs. But then I went to a few other places like Best Buy and Barnes and Noble and they had it out front and there were only a few copies left. Who knows. It won't be amazing but ppl like best of's. I bet it'll do better than we think. Too bad he's not doing a tour for it, that would help a lot.

You mean - besides the 2 years tour he has just completed? ;-)

................my my my...but if one goes on to the Amazon.com site you might find the following numbers:

Very Best of Mick Jagger: #1 under Dance/Pop, #4 under Dance/Pop with DVD, #4 overall in Britain,

Congrats on a fine first "week". He's not kicking Springsteen's ass or even Annie Lennox'............, but not bad for the old cogger.

Catalogue releases like this tend to sell like the catalogue - that is rather on a long-term basis than through a short span of chart success. How long did it take Dirty Work to reach gold status?

Re: Best of Mick - Sales Prediction
Posted by: Rocky Dijon ()
Date: October 7, 2007 16:39

Dirty Work went gold and platinum in the US in about a month like nearly every other Stones release.

Re: Best of Mick - Sales Prediction
Posted by: georgelicks ()
Date: October 7, 2007 16:57

Dirty Work was Top 10 during 6 weeks and Top 40 during 4 months, it reached Gold very fast.

And as I always like to add, all the Stones studio albums from 12 x 5 to ABB reached top 5 in the US - how they fare later (weeks charted, catalogue sales) varies, but what a feat. On the other hand Mick's highest charting remains Wandering Spirit, peaked at # 11; Keith's was the debut, # 24...Never understood why Main Offender did so poorly in relation to the debut (# 99) - the tour kicked ass and imo the album holds up as well as the debut, maybe better...
