I dont get it either. In that recent Stones issue of Mojo it was rated by whoever puts those ridiculous lists together as one of their worst songs. They called it a Squeeze rip off. Other than their one hit song "Tempted" im not familiar with Squeeze at all, so I have no idea how it could sound like them.

When I first heard Where the Boys Go and Summer Romance, it was before I had ever heard any 78 boots and I imagined that these songs caputured what the stones must have sounded like on that tour. after getting handsome girls, I think I was somewhat correct about that.

Yes that's right, those 2 brings the 78 tour to mind.

It's much more understandable that songs like Undercover, Melody and Emotional Rescue causes a fight in threads like this - but "Where The Boys Go" is such a nasty rocker, I simply don't understand how it can be rated so bad among the common man.

Never heard Squeeze, either...

I'll add my five:

Ruby Tuesday(no, I'm not kidding)
Love Is Strong....Seems like Jagger studied a "How to be Mick Jagger" book.
Ventilator Blues.......Has some ok parts, but rather boring to me.
Dance, PT 1......because If I was A Dancer blows it away.
All About You......I can't get past the little burp/spasm that Keith has toward the end.Its like an ok person with a really big wart on their face. You just focus on the wart, not the person.

Be careful about staking out an unpopular opinion, Pay Pay, when you list Ruby Tuesday at the top of your list of the worst. I said I don't like Lady Jane and caught some flak about it. Criticizing the classics, it seems, is taboo. But I respect everyone's opinions and their right to express them.

1. Melody
2. Cherry Oh Baby ( I like all the other songs on 'Black and Blue')
3. Where the Boys Go (To me its a very ordinary tune and Jaggers affected vocals irritates me - sorry)
4, Too much blood
5. Dear Doctor

WOW PayPay - I would have to say that your dislike of Ruby Tuesday rivals my dislike for Rambler, both of which are in great minority opinions around here!!

Wow, Maine Road...these discussions always bring a wide array of opinions, but your list is the first one on here that I totally disagree with. As I read lists I see some really bad songs that i forgot about (Under the Boardwalk, Thief in the Night), but the 5 on your list are all songs I not only like, I'd like to see live.

1. Melody - so soulful
2. Cherry Oh Baby good reggae cover when reggae was emerging in the States
3. Where the Boys Go - nothing fancy, basic Rock-n-roll...far from their best, far from their worst
4, Too much blood - about as nasty a song as they have written...nasty in this case being good
5. Dear Doctor - I like the album version and the outtakes I have heard. I'm not a country music fan but this is great. 'I've been soaking up drink like a sponge..'

Where the Boys Go, to me it sounds like they are trying to be something their not, Squeeze, maybe.. definitely one of those early 80s crap punk/pop bands like devo or something. And the girls voices at the end is horrible

Can You Hear the Music

Back To Zero

Might As well Get Juiced

You Got Me Rocking.. I have grown to hate it because of its warhorse status and cheesy lyrics

Where The Boys Go is a Sham 69 rip off. The Stones had been listening to 'Hersham Boys' by the sound of it. I like the track although it's a little lightweight to ever be amongst their better tracks. Also the fact it seems a little too forced in the way it's so obviously following the trends of the day goes against it somewhat - it's not very sincere.

Might as Well Get Juiced: one of the best tracks on BtB. Listen to it again. Excellent stuff.

And Don't Stop is a really fun track. Nothing special. Just fun. Sometimes I wanna hear songs like that.

Streets of Love is not that bad. I used to hate it. But I actually don't skip the song anymore.

The 5 worst?

Heaven
Back To Zero
Hold Back
Cherry Oh Baby
Feel On Baby
Bonus Track: Stealing My Heart

I don't mind the Stones when they experiment a little even when it's not always successful - it's when they attempt to recreate their their most recognised style that i'm generally most disappointed - certainly in more recent times.

Oh No Not You Again is pretty dire in my opinion with trite lyrics 'staring down your tits' etc. and Jagger's overaccentuated and irritating vocals yet many Stones fans like it because it's recognisably the Stones despite being pretty dire.

Heaven on the other hand is pretty good and quite unusual for the Stones with perhaps a little more sensitivity and i was pleased at the time they were willing to experiment a little. However some fans don't like it because it's not their preferred style in relation to what they believe the Stones should be all about.

I just hate the Stones more recent routine rockers - You Got Me Rocking, I Go Wild, Oh No Not You Again etc. are the Stones in their most corporate mode delivering bland songs to fit large stadiums - predictable in the extreme without an ounce of the ingenuity of their earlier models from which they take their inspiration. They're almost more Def Leppard than the great original Rolling Stones.

Re: 5 WORST Stones' Songs

I agree about You Got Me Rocking, although that one sounds more like earlier songs from other artists ( Rock 'n' Roll part 2 by,I believe,Gary Glitter is one example ) than it sounds like an earlier Stones song.

Oh No,Not You Again sounds to me like a cross between Star Star and When The Whip Comes Down but,I don't have a big problem with that or its lyrics.Big deal if the lyrics talk about looking at a female. They have plenty of old songs with just about that same theme and nobody complains about those.I don't see the difference.

I can't think of any old song that sounds like I Go Wild.I like this one and I don't believe the Stones should have given up completely on straight foward rock songs like this. What's the harm in having a few songs of this genre included in a 14 or 15 song album?

The five worst =

1) Dear Doctor

2) Sing This All Together ( See What Happens )

3) Look What The Cat Dragged In

4) Who's Been Sleeping Here ?

5) It's Not Easy

Dishonorable Mention :

Streets Of Love ; I'd Much Rather Be With The Boys ; Sex Drive ; Might As Well Get Juiced ( Studio Album Version) ; Sitting On A Fence

Without a doubt, their worst song ever:

1. My Girl--so bad.

My other four selections are:

2. Sweet Neocon

3. Rocks Off--Only the Live Licks version with the terrible edit. Otherwise a great song.

4. Streets of Love

5. Some Things Just Stick In Your Mind

I can't understand why Thief In The Night was brought up in this thread. It sounds even better live - great choice to be paired with an uptempo Richards lead vocal.

Could not disagree more about Heaven (fits nicely into the stretch of ballads on side 2 of TY), Hold Back (the guitars!) and Feel on Baby (which is, imho, an average tune from an overall great album. There are 100 worse Stones tunes). Especially funny that Hold Back is mentioned so often; people, you should give Voodoo Lounge and A Bigger Bang another listen, maybe you would learn to appreciate Under Cover and Dirty Work.

You like only one song from Some Girls and not any on E.Rescue or Undercover? You don't sound like a big Stones supporter.Sure Emotional Rescue is uneven but, there are some good songs on there. There are only one or two sub par songs on Undercover,in my view.

Ive been to 57 Stones concerts from 1975. I'm not a Stones supporter? I've traveled to 16 different cities in The States during the last tour. My wife and I even got our pics on the cover of tThe Atlantic City newspaper for being great fans. These albums are the low points in their career. Give me anything from Black and Blue on back and Steel Wheels on forward. Those five albums in between contain some of their worst material.

Let me understand this.Their best selling original album with new material (new at the time) of their 45 year career is / was a low point?TSMR was the low point followed by perhaps Dirty Work but, half of Dirty Work is pretty solid despite the state of the band back then.I understand that they had no control over Metamorphosis otherwise, that would have been a big disgrace.

I'd much rather listen to Before They Make Me Run,Tie You Up (The Pain Of Love),or even Summer Romance than complete garbage such as I'd Much Rather Be With The Boys,Sing This All Together (See What Happens),or a ridiculous song featuring a talking heart in a jar.
