Why not talk whole albums? E.g. "Riot City Blues" and "Give Out But Don't Give Up" by Primal Scream....

Both great albums by the way ;-)

Love the line 'Though I'm dressed in these rags I'll wear sable some day'. Really snotty Jagger like line. Could have come off Aftermath that one.

Rebel Rebel (Bowie).

It sounds just like The Stones.

The New York Dolls first album. Especially:

Pills
Subway Train
Looking For A Kiss

I'm tired, I'm tired of doing what I'm told.
Things are moving way too slow.

Ever heard "Nobody" by the Replacements? (From "All Shook Down")

Boastful and self-deprecating all at once with a joyously lazy groove. Reminds me of "Let It Bleed." And that is never, ever a bad thing...

Speaking of The Replacements. Westerbergs Knockin On Mine is quite Stonesy and very cool.

Definitely the Primal Scream stuff was my first thought.

Whenever I hear Gloria, I always think that Mick Jagger would really have a good time with the lyrics and The Rolling Stones would really kill covering that song live.

It's All Over Now, done by the Stones, but not written by them. The question refers to songs they didn't write, not perform.

"Hard to Make a Stand" by Sheryl Crow

It sounds like a Stones song. Some of her other songs do too. I could see Mick moving to "My Favorite Mistake".

"You'll be studying history and you'll be down the gym. And I'll be down the pub, probably playing pool and drinking."

Agree with a lot of the Primal Scream noms, but I'd say that 'Damaged' off 'Screamadelica' is their most Stonesy moment. Could be an outtake from GHS.

Two not mentioned elsewhere:

Shake Yor Money by Black Grape. OK, it "vocally samples" 'Fool To Cry', but it has a perfect, loose early 70s vibe.

Swedish band The Soundtracks Of Our Lives can sound very Stonesy. A lot of very Keef-esque riffs on the 'Behind The Music' album, particularly 'Sister Surround' and '20th Century Rip-Off'.

Oh - and this thread would be incomplete without a mention of The Pretty Things.

Jimmy Miller got a credit for this song as a 'additional producer' and he mixed it too

'Just When You're Thinking Things Over' - a clone of 'Torn & Frayed'.

That Dandy Warhols' song 'Bohemian Like You' also bears a strong resemblance to 'Brown Sugar'

Hello!

It might be a bit off the main topic here, but I like to mention
Duane Jarvis' cd "Far From Perfect" from 1998; if you're interested in
Stones stuff from the "Sticky Fingers" era with a lot of country rock
influence, give this a try!
Or in other words, if I would re-record this cd on cassette with a very muddy sound,I could sell it to some bootleggers as a third generation tape of "Sticky
Fingers" outtakes!!
Great songs and a vocal style not so far away from Jaggers!
