Agreed, over-rated. IMO, nothing special or even close to it.

..........to each his own for sure.......calling her a hack however just isn't true........... it's demeaning, and a cheap shot. If her live performances aren't always up to snuff because of alcohol or drug abuse.........well we've all seen that played out for decades.....and I am in no way saying you should cut her slack if she shows up to a gig pissed drunk.........she needs to help herself.

Personally I can't keep the record off my turntable. I think it's the record of the year at the very least.

I'm, with you - she's easily the best new thing on the music scene for at least the last five years - probably longer than that ;-)

This album still gets better everyday i play it.

Amy has huge potoential but it's up to her if she cares enough to get it together.

The production is fantastic...all those Brill Building Girl Group touches and Motown licks...and yet it doesn't sound old or stale at all.

It's the best thing I've heard by a new artist in a long long time.

No! lets put a stop to this right now. Back to Black is a fantastic album. She clearly has latent talent. Talent which she is unable,unwilling and otherwise disabused of in public. She's a scheister. Why does she even pretend she will show up to a gig that will do her music any credit? she does not deserve your sympathy. She is a media-whore and a hack.

I'm with you - especially on this board, you'd think there would be a little more sympathy towards people going a little wayward - Brian Jones and that other guitarist spring to mind ;-)

Probably to do with the fact she is a woman - they sometimes get a rougher deal. And don't forget the publicity - after the incidents she's actually climbed up the charts again (I do seem to recall another band using controversy as a claim to faim in the 60'. No prices for right answer *s*)

I saw her at the IOW festival. Her own slot was brilliant. You can't claim that she was too pissed to perform - she was the second best of the festival, no doubt about it. She can sing and she has stage presence - all at the age of 22!

Just because she makes it into the media for all the wrong reasons is no reason to call her a hack. She has the tabloids following her everywhere she goes - all those paparzzi photogrophers just waiting for her to trip up or sneeze or whatever will make her look bad on the front covers. Add to that her alchohol addiction (not the first big star ever to succumb to booze or drugs).

If I remember correctly, the stones haven't always showed up on time and always performed sober. Many a concert in the 70s was postponed until the early hours of the morning whilst they waited for Keith to be in a state to play the gig.

So I'm sorry OldKR but you are perhaps showing your ignorance by saying these things. She is clearly the best mainstream pop act to come out in several years.

By the way, her first album is utter crap.

Nope, 24 actually. She's exactly one week younger than me.

Shes overrated and if it wasn't for the tabloid attention and the fact that she appeared with the Stones, I reckon many here would never of heard of her.

I have no sympathy for brian jones, he also was unable to perform at various times. As for keith, never stopped him performing. Its a different genre, keith (or brian or mick for that matter) can be a mess, because they write raucous songs that are meant to be a little rough. There is nothing rough round the edges about amy wino.

Oh come on, that Amy Winehouse version of Beat It is a classic!

Seriously though, she is great when she is sober enough but - like all of us - she can sound bad when totally drunk. She has to learn the fine line between living the rock n roll lifestyle and being a junky but that's OK.

The vast majority of her shows are brilliant. There were one or two bad shows and a list of shows where she canceled due to her being in such a bad state with her addiction. Let's just hope she gets better rather than calling her nasty names for the sake of it.

Any justification of her behaviour would be wrong......,and she obviously is ill to do what she does to her self/body. That is unfortunate. I hope she gets well soon.

As far as her self promotion......can she be worse (or for that matter better) than Madonna.......the most famous and shamelss of self promoters (I loved Ray Of Light but remember her Sex book)???????..or Jessica Simpson???, or Britney Spears???.........or the very limited Lilly Allen???......at least Winehouse has the chops. and when she does show up can deliver also. Too bad about the other crap for her and ultimately for us if we don't get to see/hear more of her. Her musical direction is very interesting.

i didnt say she was any better or worse (self promo-wise) that any other performer, that she puts her band thru what she has/ does frequently is a "hack" in musical context-yes.

...and it turns out that there is a deluxe-version of "Back to Black" in the works (surprise, surprise)..but here's the catch:

In the listing for the extra songs on the deluxe version is "Monkey Man". Now - I only know of one song called that...should be interesting ;-)

Toots actually played it in Parken this Summer.

No, I don't know anymore than already posted. My initial thought was just that it could be The Maytals version she covered and just an obvious choice as The Stones' version.
