An Andy Warhol portrait of Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger has sold for $46,800 at a Sydney auction.
The screenprint portrait entitled Andy Warhol's Mick Jagger 1975 is signed by both Warhol and Jagger.
While Wednesday night's sale price for the pop art piece exceeded the estimate of between $25,000 and $35,000, it was less than the price achieved for the same work in London and New York.
The portrait is one of a number of works Warhol produced for the music industry, including Rolling Stones album covers Sticky Fingers (1971) and Love You Live (1977).
Warhol was commissioned to do several portraits of Jagger in 1975.
Meanwhile, a Fred Williams piece Landscape with Water Ponds (1965-67) sold for $1.860 million and Brett Whiteley's Orange Fiji Dove sold for $1.92 million at auction.
A spokeswoman for Deutscher~Menzies Auctioneers Marie Geissler said: "It's been quite a big night here and we're very pleased with the results".
