do you have anything to trade for it, tim? it's a $100 value!

I've received the book, poster and DVD in the tin from the Fan Club in the past. So I was happy enough with that (though like most fans, I already had the book). But sign of any hat or any other new stuff so far.

The customer service at Rollingstones.com has been very poor in my experience - any problem and they either ignore you or automatically assume you did something wrong. Just not the level of service you normally expect.

What's the point of sending out this garbage merchandise? RS com should be sending money to charity instead...and give us a choice whether we want it or not.

Of course like many I was tempted by the RS.com fan club
but did not get involved...can someone concisely remind
me what it cost & what was promised? Did anybody feel
that it was worth it? As Gazza said, I am also surprised
by how many people don't seem to care if they receive
the items and services promised by the club.

LQ: I bought several tickets for some shows. Gave some to friends etc. (You know, presents!) And some I bought for people on this board. In the general admission shows, hot ticket holders were given early entrance.
My question was not if anyone else bought 21 hot tickets, but if people had received the merchandice that came with the tickets... And I'm still wondering!

I haven't received anything yet, so I shot them an email the other day inquiring.
Today they answered that I'm a virtual ticket member, not a platinum member!
WTF did I pay $100 for?

I replied, well, uhm - a bit bad tempered...

LQ, you got "a" baseball hat ? Count yourself lucky, FIVE of the bloody things have turned up here ... guess that's because I got a good many of the tickets for European shows this summer with hastily bought new memberships. Anyone want a "BB" baseball hat, I hate the friggin' thangs ?

I think the hat is pretty nice actually. I bet it would be $20-25 at a show.

The membership card gets us front of the line access to tickets at MSG for the Shine a Light premiere in April. Apparently we get to see the movie first and then the Stones...Can't wait!

i'm just in the door from malaysia and thailand...

GSTONE - interesting about getting in the door early for the GA shows in europe this summer - sounds like what they did for the theater shows in europe in '03. you are very generous. i was lucky to get front row at all the shows i went to the old-fashioned way of running like hell but only got front row at the catwalk corner at one (bucharest).

PAULY - i am surprised you're still buying memberships at all! it sounds like those days might be behind you now.

by the way, i heard ronnie will be in NYC for a book signing...

GEORGEV - what is this about front of the line access to SAL at MSG? i checked IORR a little here and there while on my trip but missed any threads regarding this. is the movie at MSG also?

<<< PAULY - i am surprised you're still buying memberships at all! it sounds like those days might be behind you now >>>

Well, it was kind of a joint decision really. For reasons I won't bore you with, I ended up buying most of the tickets I and my other travelling companions used for Europe 2007. We did have discussions before the sales started as to whether there was anything to be gained in getting tickets in the pre-sales or not. Most of the time we concluded that as a membership cost $100, but it was gonna be split 4 ways, we thought that even if it gave us a very slight edge in terms of availability of good seating, it would be worth it. As it happens, we very rarely ended up in the part of the stadium we'd paid for. Sometimes we'd bought seats and ended up choosing to go down to the FOS area (where there was one), on other occasions we simply looked at where our seats were and then jumped into better ones that (thankfully) remained unclaimed by anyonwe else throughout the show.

All in all, the "to buy or not to buy with membership" issue was for us a bit of a mixed bag. I can think of some shows where there was (a) no FOS and (b) we specifically went for seats in a particular part of the stadium, where we've no complaints whatsoever about the seats that were made available to us during the presales and that we bought. They were 100 percent great. Two shows that spring to mind in this respect are Lyon and Copenhagen. By the same token I can think of other shows (the 3 x O2 ones for example), where what was made available to us in the presales - and we're talking about LEGACY codes here - absolutely STANK. I bought a total of 12 tickets between the first 2 shows using 3 Legacy codes. Only ONE group of 4 tickets was in my opinion any good in terms of location - block 101 row H, the others were appalling - block 101 row Z and block C3 on the floor row 3 seats 47/8/9/50 - the OUTSIDE seats.

Not really sure what we've learned from all this, because if you think about it, once you've say bought tickets for a show using a membership, you're not really that inclined to then pay a huge amount of interest to what is being made available in the public sale - unless you specifically want to make a comparison. I do however THINK that one particular thing it IS reasonable to conclude: that the way this shitheap of an organisation called rollingstones.com treats presales is to allocate to Ticketmaster (principally) a "range" of tickets in terms of prices, they categorically do NOT allocate them a large chunk of "best" or "better" seats. Consequently, depending on the "size" of the allocations for presales, it is by no means a certainty that you'll be offered the "best" or "better" seats in presales than in the public sale. The O2 this summer was a classic example, crap in the presales, MUCH better stuff in the public sales, and then of course the "late in the day" releases of side view seats and unsold "hot seats" and other VIP allocations that became free.

Anyway, as a result of my travelling companions' and my decision to go down the "membership" route for most of our ticket purchases, the kitchen table at home here is now awash with ABB baseball caps. As I say, I hate 'em.

It was a joke Queenie but I am surprised nobody else picked up on it. RS.com did promise us:

"Fan Club members will have a chance to experience this film like no one else."

My imagination started running and I came up with what I think is a good idea.

If they want publicity for the movie, and there are rumours they will play several nights at MSG to hype the movie, why not do the actual world premiere of the movie for fan club members at MSG followed by a live show? Think of the publicity that would get! Tickets would be scarce and the attention toward the movie would be enormous.

Maybe that is what they have in mind anyway. I could not figure out how doing live shows at MSG would support the movie but if they made the movie part of the event, it would get all sorts of attention.

If anyone can get this idea to the Stones camp or RS.com, all I would want is a Rattlesnake Inn pass for my creativity! :>)

... i know it's just a joke, but it's a slow afternoon. :E
an international multi-cinema simulcast like they did with the Rio show seems like it would be
more attention-worthy, more accessible to more people, and all-around more likely.
i'm not convinced that having a concert film as a warm-up act would necessarily work real well,
or that a premiere open only to some bumbling fanclub members would seem very newsworthy to the media.
(ahem: "bumbling" is meant here to apply to the fan club, not necessarily to the members!)

Glad you clarified that!

Police did a show for their fan club in Vancouver before they kicked off their tour. Same promoter I believe, i.e. Michael Cohl.

but did they have a premiere of their own concert film as the warm-up act?
i thought the subject was your idea of preceding a concert with a private premiere of Shine a Light,
which seems kinda dubious to me in more ways than one. have some popcorn anyway, though!

They make great money from this. One year ago they charged my card automatically, and I told my card company I did not order it, so I got my money back. This year they charged my card one more time. I have been too busy with the tour to even think about it. It is illegal actually but they do know how to cash in. Now I got a 100 dollars worth cap which is too small and I do already hjave 12 from the previous tour. I have caps for the rest of my life.

PS. There will be special caps for Montana. Red. To be used during the elk hunting.

To give the elks a fair warning?

Oh no, not them again...
but they do get thrown back into woods, don't they?

I do not think it is illegal, BV.

If "automatic renewal" is spelled out in the terms of membership (probably buried in the fine print) then you agree to this by purchasing your original membership.

I find it interesting that your membership was renewed for a third year, after your second year was refunded by your credit card company. Makes me wonder if you still had pre-sale privileges during that second year.

Yes it was, but I gather you didn't like my idea. Pretty sure if they did this, it would be all over the Entertainment news. Not that I like the show but its been many years since there has been much mention of the Stones on Entertainment Tonight. They would be all over a premiere like this.

The 'automatic renewal' option WASNT in the membership conditions until they added it in 2006 - without telling us (Guess it slipped their mind as they were too busy with all these other more important mailshots). So - unless they happened to be bored and looking through their membership profile near the end of their one year term -, most people would have been oblivious to the fact that their membership was going to be automatically renewed until after it had already been done.

I had a few memberships during 40 Licks which did help me score club/theater tickets.
I've only kept one of those active, and thankfully I did.I scored a pair of 9th row $99 seats at Anaheim
for the last tour via presale.I don't like the idea of automatic renewal, but in this case I'm confident
the Stones will be coming back to Los Angeles soon. The presale code is sometimes helpful.

Besides, I can always use a new baseball cap...
