It seems that Hughie Thomasson, former guitarist and singer of the Outlaws and later member of Lynyrd Skynyrd, died yesterday. Not much publicity on this one yet.
He was cutting a rug at a place called the Jug with a girl named Linda Lou and, well ... let's just say Linda's husband only gave him two and a half steps. Missed it by thatmuch!

I'll second that dang it Lukester...Always was,is,will be a big Outlaws fan...As well as Skynyrd of course...The Outlaws had many fine songs bedsides just the anthem Green Grass & High Tides(Free Bird lite,if you will). The only Outlaws cd I have is the Greatest Hits. But very well worth having. Many great songs like Gunsmoke,Hurry Sundown,Ghost Riders in the Sky and one I never heard until I bougt the cd,called "Girl From Ohio". Which considering I have a very nice lady friend from Cincinatti hit a soft spot with me....As well as the the song you mentioned Lukester, which I have worn out. There Goes Another Love Song.
"It's just some friends of mine and they're busting down the door"
....damn it....I'm gonna put on an Outlaws album now (vinyl) and drift back into 1976.....find my cowboy boots.....and hat........fat roach.......I'm set.....see you guys tomorrow....
I think the Outlaws will billed as 'The Florida Guitar Army'. A very good live act.
In 1975 they opened the last show of the Stones US Tour, here in Buffalo. I believe it was The Outlaws, Bobby Womack (who did the original It's All Over Now) and The Stones. (Though from most accounts, the Stones were a mess that day, though the 80,000 people there didn't seem to mind).
Seen them back in 76 i think it was at parkhead Celtic football park along with the who, alex harvey, they were brilliant 1st time i saw em loved him when he was in skynyrd too RIP hughie and family
bring em back alive is one of the greatest live albums, listened to it alot in high school around the bonfire with a beer. great jams hughie, rest in piece...
this is from the Outlaws website, apparently some of the surviving members had gotten back together:
"With great sadness, we must announce the passing of our friend, Hughie Thomasson. Hughie died unexpectedly late Sunday night of an apparent heart attack at his home in Brooksville, Florida."
You ain't lying. Really miss those days - Dixie Rock, lots of concerts in Macon, freaks wearing concert shirts and floppy leather hats, that sweet smell rising from the arena floor, etc.
Wow, 5 good songs!!!!!!!!! How many albums they produce? You can only name 5 good songs. So that means all their albums suck. 5 tunes are only half an LP. By the way, only California sucks more than the South. Go sip your sauvigon blanc and eat your quiche you banal plastic clown!!!!!!!
