The Stones covering Berry, what a great combination! Can't get enough of it.

Visually, I thought '78 was a disaster.

What you don't see in that photo of Mick is the bottom of those goofy highwater pants.

At the time, Mick's attempt to put on a "punk" look was pathetic. The Stones were the Old Guard that the punks were railing against (see the song "1977" by The Clash) and for him to try to play their game was a mistake. Anytime a 35 year old puts on faddish clothes worn by people in their teens/early 20's in order to be cool it's a pretty sad sight.

Him wearing a "Destroy" t-shirt in '78 was as dumb as if he had worn a big clock around his neck in '89. Dude, you're MICK JAGGER. Lead, don't follow....

I thought the 78 look was great, but I agree - the Destroy shirt was a Sex Pistols-thing, Jagger shouldn't taken that one to his chest.
Then again - Pistols used T-shirt Charlie Watts made famous at TOTP 1969...the tits-look.

smile: Jagger's assorted Looks throughout the 70s were pretty cringeworthy -
Keith really carried the band stylewise in those years - defining what a rock icon looks like
while that jittery little frontman cat (bless him!) was prancing around like an i-don't-know-what

don't hurt me! i love the Rolling Stones,
and being obnoxious in a multitude of ways
is one of Mick's great gifts :E

Those black folks in Crichton (neighborhood in Mobile) have seen probably damn near everything, so I wouldn't doubt it! I don't remember seeing any of them at the Mobile Stones concert in '72, although it was opened by Stevie Wonder of course.

I guarantee that if you're ever in Mobile, Alabama on St. Patrick's Day, look for Callahan's Irish Pub near downtown (in the Garden District) . You'll definately see at least one leprechaun there!! And, you'll have a great time!!

Although I was too young during this era, I agree completely. I cringe when I see Mick during this period. Musically I liked the sound, but some of Mick's clothes were horrible. Never been a fan of the whole punk look.

About Let It Rock, what a way to open a show. Awesome

Keith looks fantastic in those photos. But, I must admit, I am not a huge fan of the 78 tour, for two reasons:

1. the beret.
2. daylight shows.

But, to the person who said that since 89 it's been the same show: did you actually see the Licks shows?

One final comment: Let It Rock is one of the Stones greatest live tracks, and the fact that they don't do Chuck's tunes anymore is a damn shame.

technically, IORR is on that list too as it was used as an opener once at the start of the Licks tour (Pheonix show) and it was used to close a few shows at the begining of the ABB tour.

Yes you are right. Don't think there's any other than Let It Rock that's not a "big hit" unless I forgot one...

Midnight Rambler perhaps?...it was the opener at Enmore Theatre back in '03 and was closer at a couple of '75 shows
